Larch Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Good Shot
A winner in this class and over the Happy Valley 1200m last April is this lightly raced gelding who did fall away as that season wore on but has been a lot more consistent this season and there were genuine excuses (mucus in trachea) for the January 1 flop.
Good Shot put in a rather plain Happy Valley trial on January 16 following that, which forced trainer David Hall to give him a little more time and the recent jump out on March 8 was a much stronger piece of work, going to the line under a firm hold in an 800m heat at Conghua.
Off the one length defeat two starts back behind Kinda Cool, who franked that form in his next outing with victory in a strong Class 3, he'd be the one to beat in this Class 4 event and meets the race favourite Spontaneous 3kg better off from their most recent clash.
Cypress Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Stock Legend
This four-year-old is putting together a tidy record, winning three of his last five outings in Hong Kong which includes two victories this year and either side of the most recent defeats, has had some excuses.
Following a soft win when resuming on January 20, the son of Sidestep was admittedly a little disappointing second-up although did some work from a wide gate but with the benefit of a low draw, bounced back on March 10 with 60.5kg and stepped up to Class 3 via his latest attempt.
While the effort was certainly competitive, Stock Legend just couldn't get in close enough from a slightly sticky gate but with barrier two this evening and Joao Moreira back in the saddle, it's his chance in this grade, carrying just 55kg and mapping for a gun run on a moderate tempo.
Fountain Palm Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Smiling City
Although well beaten last start at Sha Tin, a failure on the All-Weather circuit can be forgiven and over his prior outings this season, this gelding has been very consistent over six performances at Happy Valley, which included a victory three starts back.
After the 3kg claim of Jerry Chau, Smiling City has what is a winnable impost of 54kg and given the Douglas Whyte-trained galloper has been down in the weights for these Class 3 attempts, it was important to get that relief versus some classy opposition this evening.
What the five-year-old does have in his favour over many well fancied rivals is early speed and while he's drawn out, there's no natural leaders inside of him, so rolling forward to preferably take up the running, the son of So You Think can give a sight up front.
Fountain Palm Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 7 Charity Fun
Admittedly this gelding was a huge price in his Hong Kong debut on January 20, but it was hard to miss his effort from the rear over the 1650m when making big inroads for an eventual fourth-place finish and was clearing out from the rest.
With 21 winners this season at Happy Valley and a positive ROI of 39.3%, the Danny Shum stable has been profitable one for punters follow and that includes a victory here with Charity Fun who bolted in as our best bet on February 17 program.
He had excuses following that when enduring a wide run but bounced back on March 23 and while stepping up to Class 2 level now, is one of the progressive runners in this line-up and drops 4.5kg while retaining Zac Purton, who has barrier two at his disposal.
