Lancashire Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Good Shot
A winner in this class and over the Happy Valley 1200m last April is this lightly raced gelding who did fall away as that season wore on but has been a lot more consistent this season and there were genuine excuses (mucus in trachea) for the January 1 flop.
Good Shot put in a rather plain Happy Valley trial on January 16 following that, which forced trainer David Hall to give him a little more time and the recent jump out on March 8 was a much stronger piece of work, going to the line under a firm hold in an 800m heat at Conghua.
Off the one length defeat two starts back behind Kinda Cool, who franked that form in his next outing with victory in a strong Class 3 that has produced multiple winners, he'd be the one to beat in this Class 4 event, providing he's sound.
Renfrew Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Superbella
This gelding was enormous at a huge price in a 1650m contest on February 3 which he arguably should've won and was equally unlucky following that on February 24 when much shorter in the market.
Settling towards the rear as a result of a wide barrier, the five-year-old was badly inconvenienced two starts back when approaching the first turn but still managed to come from a long way off them, finishing strongly for fourth which did put the writing on the wall for that last outing.
After continually being shuffled back on that occasion and having far too much to with no momentum at the top of the straight, it wasn't Joao Moreira's finest ride but with the champion hoop staying aboard here, he gets a chance to make amends.
Durham Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Nordic Wellstar
Like many of the Australian sprinters that arrive to Hong Kong, they can take a few runs to find their feet, especially the very inexperienced one's which was certainly the case with this four-year-old in two January performances.
Bolting in on debut when racing under the name of 'Latenighttoughguy' before being sold, Nordic Wellstar has really started to hit his straps of late, finding the line strongly in each of his last two attempts, but simply, has been spotting them too much ground.
He was only a stride off winning on February 24 when rattling home from the rear and now they finally draw an alley in five, jockey Alexis Badel can ideally settle a few pairs closers then launch late off a what does look a suitably strong tempo for this Douglas Whyte-trained galloper.
Chester Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happey Valley Roughie - Race 9 No. 2 Shining Gem
While the big price is certainly warranted given this gelding has finished second last via his last two outings, he's had genuine excuses each time and prior to those runs, was three-wide the trip when narrowly defeated first-up on November 8 in a very similar event to what he faces here.
Following the luckless fresh performance, nothing went right for Shining Gem on December 23 where although he recovered well from a slightly tardy getaway, was badly checked when getting on heels which effectively put him out of commission.
The son of Mafki wasn't disgraced via his most recent showing on March 7 when resuming off a break with a fast run five furlongs just proving a little sharp but returning to 1200m, is perhaps the forgotten runner in this line-up with Derek Leung taking back the reins.
