It was a terrific debut victory at Toowoomba last winter, where Orthie's Boys spotted them a big start early over 1100m before letting down late on a soft track.

The son of So You Think was spelled ahead of his first appearance in New South Wales and he made ground in that Newcastle attempt, with a fourth-of-twelve finish.

Orthie's Boys was then given time ahead of a March 11 resumption at Goulburn, where he made ground from the rear and the gelding is suited up to 1100m second-up.

In a leader-dominated race, Kenmare Bay was the pick of the chasers behind Lugarno when resuming over on February 27 and as a result, he was heavily backed second-up.

The O'Shea & Charlton-trained galloper did have his chance in that Wyong event, where he hit a flat spot at a key stage over a mile, but Kenmare Bay still picked up again late.

He was a third-up winner last campaign and with breeding that supports the rise in distance to 2100m, the three-year-old gets a chance to atone on Thursday.

He's a big price due to a last start failure and there may have been excuses there, as the jockey reported that Ambassadors was uncomfortable racing in amongst rivals.

Also, the fresh form when splitting two progressive three-year-old's is starting to read very well, with Verona Rose (winner) taking out a Group 3 at her next start.

He was a third-up winner in this grade and trip last prep, where Ambassadors carried a similar impost and he was well-held ahead second-up leading into that July 13 victory.
