NARARA PLUMBING CG&E MAIDEN PLATE Tips (Race 1)
Gosford Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 9 Raoul
James Cummings prepares this Godolphin three-year-old that has accepted to debut in the opener from Gosford this Tuesday and he has shown ability at the trials which includes a third via his latest pubic hit-out at Canterbury on December 15.
By Kermadec and out of a half-sister to Group One winner Campanologist, Raoul does look as though he'll get over more ground in time which that breeding does support, however, did catch the eye late in that last trial which was behind a useful pair in Rocketing By and Deep Speed in good time for that morning (on a Soft 7).
With the favourite Street Power (beaten at 25/1 on debut in a Country Maiden) and second market elect Pacific Ocean (best recent form for this but now a query back on a wet track), it's not the deepest of Maidens and with Hugh Bowman taking the reins, he gets his chance from gate six.
BEACHES SURF SCHOOL BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Gosford Value Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Dinado
A galloper that will be hoping for testing wet circuit at Gosford on Tuesday is this four-year-old who was sound on resumption at Hawkesbury over 1400m in what was only a two-length defeat on the line after making some late inroads.
Dinado improved off a similar return last time in to prevail on a Heavy 9 by a massive space second-up at Kembla Grange and made it back-to-back triumphs in a Class 1 via a Heavy 10 surface prior to a forgivable performance at Gosford, where she raced three-wide throughout a 2100m contest.
Although she has drawn out here, I suspect they'll be looking to roll forward on this daughter of Toronado who being out of Adelaide Cup winning mare in Lacey Underall, is a lightly raced middle distance/staying type who is capable enough in a race of this nature.
SNEDDON BROS GOSFORD GUINEAS Tips (Race 6)
Gosford Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Forbidden Love
The Listed Gosford Guineas sees this filly from the Richard & Michael Freedman stable head the betting, a three-year-old that has recorded three wins and four placing's from eight starts along being proven on both Heavy and Good surfaces, which sees her as the safest option here.
Following a sixth-place finish in the Group Percy Sykes at start number two, she has been a model of consistency with three wins and three thirds from her next six outings, which includes a first-up victory over 1200m in August via a Spring campaign which culminated in a placing in The Group One Empire Rose Stakes when venturing to Melbourne.
Whilst she wasn't beaten far on that occasion over a mile, I suspect the 1200m-1400m distance range is more suitable for Forbidden Love who has trialled up well at Randwick on December 22 and under James McDonald, doesn't have to lead with speed engaged in this field.
GOSFORD RSL BELLE OF THE TURF STAKES Tips (Race 7)
Gosford Roughie - Race 7 No. 16 Selica
This four-year-old is now under the care of the booming new stable of Annabel Neasham, who has saddled up eight winners from 32 starters to date and now gets a runner in this Group Three with the first emergency gaining a start.
Following an eye-catching trial at Gosford on November 25, Selica resumed in a Fillies & Mares Benchmark 78 on December 5 where she briefly looked to threaten at the 300m but the leader had too many favours up front and kicked clear as result although this mare still held her ground.
After a Benchmark 64 win in February, she was competitive at Stakes level throughout the autumn of 2020 down south and whilst this a very competitive feature, Selica is very capable and on the 54kg minimum from a good draw, she has claims at a decent price.
