While she lacks the race fitness of the odds-on favourite, this mare has less convictions than Traded Crown and the form around her first prep is certainly good enough for a Geraldton maiden.

Despite finding the 1200m a little sharp on debut, Red Cadillac worked home well behind Let's Cut Loose and Flicka's Choice, the latter recording back-to-back wins to start his spring campaign.

Cruising to the line via a Belmont trial on September 13 under Jade McNaught who sticks for race day, the four-year-old is suited resuming at 1400m and is open to improvement in this second prep.

Geraldton Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Astarba

This gelding went close to breaking the Maiden in his only other start for local trainer Trevor Bettesworth, having to settle for second in a 1200m event before campaigning for the Chris Wills yard.

Against some useful rivals that included Image Keeper and Scorpion Stormz, Astarba was very competitive in four runs over the autumn and had excuses as a beaten favourite at Ascot before being spelled (heat stress).

With barrier one at the disposal of Mitchell Pateman, a gate which is generally advantageous over the sprint trips at Geraldton, he should get his chance in what looks a very winnable race.

BUNBURY APARTMENT MOTEL HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)

Geraldton Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Pelican Pick

Despite campaigning fairly over the dirt season at Carnarvon, this honest seven-year-old has mostly raced on grass over his journey and that includes a win over the seven furlongs at Geraldton, a trip he faces here.

With three 1700m efforts over August and September, which followed a win on July 30, Pelican Pick will be hard fit and is better placed at this distance as his strike rate reflects (three of five wins have come at this trip).

Likely to camp midfield, if not a shade worse on Thursday, the likes of Miner Addiction, Red Epic and Galaxy Blaze could set up a decent tempo, which will allow this gelding to chime in late under Angela Johnston.
