Geelong Tips for January 7
Bennett Racing BM 58 Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Geelong Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Spensierato
She doesn't win out of turn with just the two victories from 22 starts, sitting without a win for 17 runs, but has finished in the placings 10 times in that period.
She was defeated by the narrowest of margins on a good track first-up before once again being pegged back on the line on a heavy 10 track which she does relish, the same conditions she will be facing in this race.
If Spensierato is ever going to win a race again, she will not find a better race than this, where there are no horses with strong wet track form besides this girl.
The blinkers went off last start which may have left her a little unfocused over the concluding stages, so they go back on today and she really should be recording career win number three.
Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers BM58 Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Geelong Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Mnemba
It could be a case of taking a running double with these two best bets, with this four-year-old mare a gun on wet surfaces.
Of her three starts, she has recorded one win, her last start where she gapped a smart horse named Gutsy in heavy nine conditions.
She has had a six-week let-up, so there may be a little bit of fitness lacking, but she and Uno Veloce are the only noted wet trackers in the event.
Beau Mertens will likely cross and aim to sit outside of the leader, giving her as easy a time as he can seeing she has not jumped out since that last win.
Rex Gorell Geelong Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Geelong Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Beautrooper
By this time of the day, expecting horses to be running down the middle to outside part of the track, so maybe the leader can dictate and head that way approaching the bend?
Beautrooper has shown his best form on wet ground, both runs at Traralgon on albeit an often leader bias track, but the win on soft ground two back was by four lengths.
We are yet to see how he handles a heavy track with both of those runs coming on a soft five surface, but being out of a Flying Spur mare, I see no worries in testing him in the conditions.
Expect there to be genuine pace with him gunning for the lead, so this race could simply be a test of who handles these choppy conditions the best.

Verdict
Spensierato needs to win a race soon and this looks the one she can break through in.
Mnembo won dominantly on heavy ground last start and can keep that run going.
Beautrooper is bred to go in the ground so expecting him to run a positive race.
