Gawler Tips July 19

Trimboli Services Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Gawler Best Bet - Race 3 No. 13 Social Dancer

The two-year-old showed plenty of ability when racing close to the pace before suffering a narrow defeat when runner-up over 1100m in a maiden contest here on debut.

That form looks strong, with the third home running well in a couple of stronger contests subsequently and the seventh-placed horse has since won at Port Augusta.

The daughter of Sir Prancealot seemed to find the combination of a Heavy 10 surface and a change of tactics too much when finishing down the field in seventh here subsequently.

Social Dancer tackled a Benchmark 64 contest that day and the return to a provincial maiden here is a positive.

Apprentice Nicola Bain takes three kilograms off and she is taken to enhance her impressive 40% strike rate (4/10) when teaming up with the Aaron Bain stable.

Gawler Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Hostess Susie

The five-year-old has shown a liking for this venue in the past, winning once and placing three times from her six starts here.

The trip is a further positive, with the daughter of Host performing well in her three starts around this distance and all of those coming at this venue.

The most recent of those efforts saw the mare beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths into third on a Heavy 8 three starts back.

While she appeared to find the 2500m distance too far at Murray Bridge subsequently, that effort did come at Benchmark 70 level.

Hostess Susie caught the eye when finishing strongly from off the back over 2000m at Murray Bridge when last in action.

Gawler Value Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Fiamette

A confirmed hold-up performer, Fiamette was a first-up winner in a 1350m Restricted 56 handicap on a Heavy 8 at Strathalbyn in May.

Her sole placed effort from two subsequent outings came when a close-up third in a 1500m handicap on a Heavy 9 when racing at Restricted 58 level here on June 21.

The five-year-old comes into this contest on the back of a mid-division finish in a 1400m handicap at Murray Bridge a week ago when passing beaten rivals in the straight.

After four runs in the 1350m-1500m range, better is expected here over 1700m, a trip she's seemingly looking for.

Barrier nine shouldn’t pose any problems and the mare is taken to pick up her rivals late on to record career win number three.

Irongate Australia Rating 0-58 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Gawler Roughie - Race 7 No. 14 Canyonero

The presence of a couple of pace angles in this field via Destiny’s Republic and Lochend Umosa means this event could be set up for a closer.

Canyonero fits the bill in that regard and while he hasn’t been at his best this time around, he has been set some stiff tasks at times, including a metro attempt.

He wore blinkers in his last prep, but they were replaced with winkers for his first two efforts this time around, including when three lengths seventh at Warracknabeal first up.

The application of a visor for the first time here should sharpen the selection up, while the extra furlong is another tick.

At his peak, he was metro class in Sydney, so the seven-year-old is capable and he's worth including in an open affair.
