Flemington Tips September 16

Race 1 - 12:10PM Robert Cram Sprint Tips (1100m)

Best: 10. Little Miss Kubi. Without threatening, this four-year-old did enough first-up in the Listed Carlyon Stakes, finishing fifth of seven in a 1000m dash that was dominated by the leader and winner.

Little Miss Kubi came a long way via her second three-year-old campaign, with a BM64 Sandown victory in February and two starts later, she was a Listed winner over this trip in Adelaide.

The daughter of Headwater finished a narrow second in her only other try up the Flemington straight and back in grade to a BM78 second-up, she has to be in the mix.

Little Miss Kubi - $8.50Flemington Race Onebet now

Value: 7. Colsridge. A lightly raced seven-year-old, Colsridge is no slouch, with the gelding finishing third via the Listed Kensington Stakes here in his first-up tilt in December, so a BM78 is well within reach.

Given time following a sole autumn run when well held on a heavy track as a $5 chance, Colsridge has won two jump-outs ahead of this return, albeit the latest was on August 1.

Damien Oliver takes the reins on the Arthur Pace-trained sprinter and with all three career wins having come fresh, including a metro BM84, he has to be respected.

Race 2 - 12:40PM The Melbourne Cup Carnival On Sale Now Tips (2500m)

Best: 2. Interpretation. Although he was ultimately a run short when runner-up over the Moonee Valley 2040m, the encouraging sign for this lightly raced import is that he backed up the terrific return.

A Listed winner in Europe that was spruiked early last spring, his best performance that prep was a third in the Group 3 Bart Cummings over this track/trip behind Lunar Flare and Francesco Guardi.

He'll be hard to beat should he find anything resembling that run, which was also third-up and ahead of this assignment, he's arguably going better than he was a year ago.

Interpretation - $5.00Flemington Race Twobet now

Value: 9. Mostly Cloudy. On his European form, he does lack the class some of these other imports, although without winning, Mostly Cloudy has been as consistent as any of them in Australia.

After slashing second and third-up efforts, including an eye-catching third behind a smart Fawkner Park in Sydney, he was expected to win here on July 15, but simply found one better.

Two runs followed that, including a Listed midfield finish in Sydney when sent a big task, while hard fit here against a few that are still building, he does tick some boxes.

Race 3 - 1:15PM The Sofitel Tips (1400m)

Best: 3. Detonator Jack. With 5kg less than the talented Queensland visitor Antino (fav), I'm leaning the way of Detonator Jack, who defeated a few stakes class gallopers over this track/trip last spring.

While he proved frustrating at the back-end of that prep when rolled twice at an odds-on quote, Ciaron Maher put that down to distance and feels he'll be better prepared as a 1400m-1600m type.

Detonator Jack briefly loomed as the winner when resuming over 1200m at Caulfield and to seven furlongs here, with a nice tick-over trial completed, he should only improve.

Detonator Jack.- $4.80Flemington Race Threebet now

Value: 8. Climbing Star. Aside from a big defeat when contesting the Group 3 Vanity over this track/trip last prep, this Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has been thereabouts in her other six outings.

Those performances include a 1600m placing here behind the handy Roots, which was her only her third start overall, with that Inglis Bracelet attempt narrow miss in a Group 2 at The Valley.

She's only had two campaigns, so there's upside with the four-year-old and while she had her chance when second to an in-form Va Via fresh, Climbing Star can improve off that.

Race 4 - 1:50PM Winning Edge Poseidon Stakes Tips (1100m)

Best: 3. King's Gambit. Spelled after a brilliant debut win at Caulfield in October, a Golden Slipper prep then didn't quite pan out for King's Gambit, albeit he still never finished out of the money.

$1.28 and $2.50 starting prices versus Cylinder, Red Resistance and Shinzo jump off the page, and while he wasn't anywhere near as professional as those rivals, he had them on talent.

As far as keeping him on as an entire, it's a make-or-break prep for the Snowden colt and off two Sydney trials, Blake Shinn jumps back on, who was aboard for the debut victory.

Value: 5. Maharba. After throwing away the Golden Gift via his first race day outing last November, he switched south to the Grahame Begg yard, who prepared for a first-up win over this track/trip.

It was a short and spaced-out second prep for Maharba, who was beaten second-up by the subsequent Golden Slipper winner when runner-up in the Pago Pago before a sixth in the Sires'.

Grahame Begg often has his youngsters primed to go fresh and with his lead-up work consisting of a trial, along with two solid jump-outs, Maharba is ready to fire first-up.

Race 5 - 2:30PM Exford Plate Tips (1400m)

Best: 15. Legacies. The main query leading into her McNeil Stakes return was whether she was looking for 1400m already and while that proved correct, it's taken a very smart colt in Veight to deny her there.

Legacies certainly lost no admirers in her first defeat and the daughter of Justify now returns to the seven-furlongs, with the filly having bolted in via a fast run affair over this trip at start two.

With Little Brose and Scheelite among the beaten brigade at Caulfield a fortnight ago, there was more quality to the McNeil Stakes than what she faces here second-up.

Value: 7. Mojave Desert. Without landing a victory, this Chris Waller-trained colt has still shown potential in six outings to date, which includes a runner-up finish over this track/trip back in May.

That followed a second on return at Geelong when bumping into a progressive stablemate in Riff Rocket, who resumed with a strong 1500m win at Kembla Grange on Thursday.

He was strong through the line when runner-up to Ceolwulf on August 30, who then finished second behind Encap at Group 3 level last week, so the form is holding up.

Race 6 - 3:05PM Cap D'antibes Stakes Tips (1100m)

Best: 3. Skirt The Law. She's perhaps short enough in a big and competitive fillies' field, however, the Charm Stone form stands out, with that galloper going back-to-back despite sitting wide last Saturday.

After getting off the inside and finding the better ground out wider on August 19, Skirt The Law briefly looked the winner in her Victorian debut at Caulfield, but the winner had all the momentum.

With a Sydney flop after her Magic Millions triumph, along with a somewhat underwhelming August trial, the Queenslander has at least shown that she's back on track.

Value: 13. Claymore Mine. Resuming at Listed level up the straight in a deep field, we were always going to get a price here for Claymore Mine, although the triple figures is a big surprise.

She hardly defeated walkers when saluting on debut, with Le Zebra (two-time city winner) and Chilled (subsequent Listed winner) produced from that opener on Mornington Cup day.

Chilled did beat Stretan Angel the start before that Mornington outing, a galloper that sits on the third line of betting here, while this filly arrives off three jump-outs.

Claymore Mine - $126.00Flemington Race Sixbet now

Race 7 - 3:40PM PFD Food Services Makybe Diva Stakes Tips (1600m)

Best: 1. Mr Brightside. While he had a terrific record going into last spring, which included a Doncaster Mile win back in the autumn of 2022, there's still no doubt that Mr Brightside has improved 12 months on.

Now, the six-year-old can sit three-wide and defeat the likes of Alligator Blood and I Wish I Win in a Memsie Stakes, with the Hayes runner a popular elect for the Makybe Diva Stakes following that.

Third-up and to 1600m is also a positive, as he took out the All-Star Mile on this pattern and the mile is his sweet spot, with of eight of his 13 wins coming over this trip.

Mr Brightside - $1.95Flemington Race Sevenbet now
The Neds.com.au code is BESTBETS. 18+ only. T&Cs apply. Chances are you’re about to lose.

Value: 6. Osipenko. At first glance of the Memsie, it's hard to see how Osipenko bridges the gap on the market elects here, but on further inspection, the Waller entire may have been the hidden run there.

With plenty of pressure from the outside and perhaps I Wish I Win holding up closer than predicted from gate one, it forced this four-year-old a few pairs back further than they'd have liked.

Despite that, the son of Pierro has made inroads to finish midfield there second-up and that followed a solid return in the Winx Stakes when sustaining a wide run at Randwick.

Race 8 - 4:20PM Furphy Let's Elope Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 1. Amelia's Jewel. While connections would've preferred a middle draw for her Victorian debut, the wide alley is more suitable than an inside gate, as she'll have room to wind up over the Flemington 1400m.

That barrier also means her class can come to the fore at Group 2 level against her own sex, rather than being buried, back and needing luck, especially as they weren't fire her up early fresh.

As a Northerly Stakes winner who took out the WA Guineas en route to that Group 1, there are profile similarities to Arcadia Queen, albeit Amelia's Jewel is more versatile.

Value: 3. Shuffle Dancer. With Caste perhaps the second most talented runner in the field, there's seemingly a very even group behind the market elects and Shuffle Dancer could be the forgotten one.

She won three of her first five last prep, which includes a Group 2 victory over this trip and among that Sandown field was Royal Merchant (subsequent Group 1 winner) and Laced Up Heels.

Laced Up Heels is one of only two gallopers that has defeated Amelia's Jewel and straight to her pet trip first-up, this four-year-old could add spice to the exotics.

Race 9 - 4:55PM Bobbie Lewis Quality Tips (1200m)

Best: 6. Charterhouse. Given his overseas form was in the 1400m-1600m range and add to that his two Australian outings were over those trips, Charterhouse is understandably a big quote first-up at 1200m.

That said, imports that have a turn-of-foot at 1400m can be dangerous down the straight and with options around both here and in Sydney, Maher & Eustace aren't placing him this way for a laugh.

A European-listed winner last year, Charterhouse has impressed in both starts Down Under and against handy sprinters via an August 28 jump-out, he was under the firmest of holds.

Charterhouse - $19.00Flemington Race Ninebet now
18+ only. T&Cs apply. Stay in Control. Gamble Responsibly. Think! About your choices. Call Gambling Help on 1800 858 858 or visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au.

Value: 2. Zoutori. This veteran sprinter is a two-time winner of this race, having taken out the 2019 and 2020 editions, while he's been competitive in the last two running's of the Bobbie Lewis.

Zoutori has never been the greatest of workers, so it's hard to gauge his three jump-outs leading into this resumption, although he was quite good past the line via his latest.

As an eight-year-old with 40 starts, he's much closer to the end than the start, but his straight track record is strong and seven of his eight wins have come first or second-up.

Race 10 - 5:25PM Australian Childhood Foundation Plate Tips (1700m)

Best: 10. Devoted. Following a fighting second to Amenable first-up, who was then terrific in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, Devoted did look a good thing on September 2, where he duly saluted.

While he's up to 55kg after being a weighted moral with 50.5kg in that last outing, he carried 58kg when contesting the Amenable race and Blake Shinn going on is never a negative.

He was only second-up a fortnight ago and hadn't raced this year, so the gelding should at the very least be holding his form and now with blinkers on, he could improve again.

Devoted - $3.60Flemington Race Tenbet now
18+ only. Ts and Cs apply.

Value: 12. Aberfeldie Boy. He could prove difficult to place now out of three-year-old company, especially at this time of the year, but in this grade, I'd be surprised if he didn't run a nice race fresh.

Aberfeldie Boy was unlucky in a few Derbies last season and was thereabouts in most of other outings, with his seventh of 18 in the QLD Derby being easily his biggest loss.

He's a lovely horse that's suited at 1700m fresh and the lead-up work indicates he's ready to go here, with a jump-out followed by a three-length trial win on September 4.
