Flemington Tips for March 19

Race 1 - 12.25pm Kennedy Grand Handicap Classic Tips

Selections: 8,2,6,5.

8. OH SO FAR was a good thing beaten at Sandown last time and has a really nice sprint for a stayer, which some of the other leading chances in this event do not have. Barrier two is not an attractive gate for him, but if he finds a split, I expect his brilliance to prove the decisive factor in winning this race.

2. French Moon is top pick as far as staying capabilities goes and will likely win a better staying race than this, but he just has no turn-of-foot and loves momentum.

6. Uniquely has found her best form, winning her last two starts including two back where she defeated French Moon fair and square.

5. Steel Skies gets Damian Lane back in the saddle who has ridden him eight times.

Race 2 - 1.05pm VOBIS Gold Comet Tips

Selections: 7,3,1,5.

7. MISS ALBANIA has changed camps to team McEvoy and looks to be flying after a recent jump-out at Ararat behind stakes stablemate Foxy Frida. She was heavily backed last prep when first-up at The Valley, but was facing the breeze in front, still sticking on well late. She backed that up with a win down the Flemington straight over Group One placed Oxley Road. She is very good.

3. Lombardo was just about my top selection, but I found him a hard horse to judge coming into this first-up. Got the job done fresh last prep (albeit not impressive) but that was off of a long spell.

1. Express Pass is the proven performer in the race that has found his mark in racing. Comes from the flying Nick Ryan stable which is a double tick.

5. Sword Of Mercy gets a half kilo swing on Express Pass, who beat her home marginally last start.

Race 3 - 1.40pm The G.H. Mumm Mystic Journey Tips

Selections: 1,6,2,5

1. YONCE is bombproof and realistically comes back in class after beating Gentleman Roy impressively. That took her record to five wins from five starts which means she is eventually going to be destined for stakes grade. It is a testament to the stable to not only keep her winning, but just keep placing her in races where she is best suited and banking the prizemoney.

6. Groovy Kinda Love backs up from last week where she ran second to Group One destined Flying Mascot. Unlucky not to beat Yonce two starts back, but that is her story given a negative racing pattern.

2. Unique Artist comes back to Flemington and comes back up to the 2000m trip where she is best effective.

5. Angel Rock is racing with great heart and is more consistent than some of these other mares.

Race 4 - 2.20pm VOBIS Gold Reef Tips

Selections: 8,7,4,2.

8. CHATEAU NINE was beaten very late in the piece over this trip at Sandown last time and will be improved from that first effort over the mile. He has gate speed and can plant himself close to the lead once again with star hoop Damian Lane in the saddle. From a map point of view and a trajectory as to where the ceiling is, I feel he is the one to beat.

7. Pocket Change comes out of a maiden win over Whatafox, who is a bridesmaid, but is stakes placed. He toughed it out in heavy conditions and looks likely to run a strong mile.

4. Pounding would be the likely winner from a wide gate, but things may get sticky from the inside gate which is a real negative factor.

2. Teewaters is a VRC Derby place getter and shows his best form over 2000m+.

Race 5 - 2.55pm Furphy Country Mile Series Final Tips

Selections: 8,1,3,5.

8. VASMEE is a very progressive galloper, who was a must forgive two back when pulling up with issues. He was a nearly a seven length winner last start and looked to have plenty more in the tank which is exciting. Looking the type who will appreciate Flemington, he should be able to find the lead from gate four and take a lot of running down again. Best bet of the day.

1. Gracias Amigo brings in the best form to this race. He defeated subsequent city winner Unanimous three starts back and was very strong at Sandown last time. Back to Flemington is a tick.

3. Beltoro looks a horse still learning the trade, but clearly has ability. Plenty of professional types in this which is the concern, but could well race in better company in preps to come.

5. Glassey Miss is hard fit and going well. Can't knock the form around Americain Angel.

Race 6 - 3.40pm The Seppelt Wines All-Star Mile Tips

Selections: 1,2,3,12.

1. I'M THUNDERSTRUCK has been primed to win this race and would start closer to favourite with a middle outside gate, but is going to need the luck from the inside. The Flemigton mile looks right up his alley and he has improved into each run this campaign. It's a task to win when you are going to be five back on the fence, but his class I believe is up to anything else here.

2. Zaaki is the proven class, being a three-time Group One winner including the Mackinnon Stakes at the end of last prep. We know he will roll along somwhere near the pace from the outside and prove mighty hard to run down.

3. Cascadian is the roughie in the race, who can cause an upset. Back to the mile from 2000m last week is ideal and he is going to get the most magnificent run from gate six.

12. Inspirational Girl had the measure of Zaaki last start in the Blamey, but that galloper now has a run under the belt and a weight advantage.

Race 7 - 4.20pm The Lexus Mugatoo Tips

Selections: 1,10,4,9.

1. NUMERIAN is the one at a price that I want to be with first-up in a race full of question marks. He did enough when first-up in Australia over the 1400m trip last prep before spelling straight after. He has trialled up well in prep for this race and may have a touch of stakes class on his side which is all he will need to win this.

10. Gentleman Roy draws wide and is going to have to work to find a spot, which is no easy task after a very long preparation.

4. Cherry Tortoni has lost his ping, but should find himself suited up to the mile after last week's effort behind Kissonallforcheeks.

9. Bermadez is best when kept fresh, so $3.90 looks a touch too short for mine.

Race 8 - 5.00pm The Seppelt Wines Regal Power Tips

Selections: 6,1,11,8.

6. GRANDSLAM was okay first-up at Flemington when well backed, but has been back to the jumpouts, and won with a leg in the air. The key to this horse is jumping in front and rolling along which he was not able to do last time when well back in the field. Fitter, to a longer trip and ready to find his best form, Grandslam looks a nice price in a race where there is little pressure in front.

1. Defibrillate is en-route to next week's Mornington Cup and off the back of his win on Blue Diamond in the Mornington Cup Prelude, he will be in this up to his ears.

11. Emissary was very good first-up at Caulfield and looks the one to beat off of that run. Important to note that he produced a similar run first-up last time, then went off the boil.

8. Desert Icon was tough last time but was beaten fair and square by Defibrillate. He may be one who pushes forward with our top selection this time.

Race 9 - 5.40pm TAB Sprint Tips

Selections: 6,13,3,5.

6. TAP 'N' RUN finished second at Wagga in a Country Qualifier, once again showing how genuine he is. He has some form in some of the Sydney highweight races, but in what is an open bm 78, a country trained horse coming from Albury to face the straight track at Flemington looks a little bit of a set play from the stable.

13. Moeen has always promissed a bit over her career but is yet to set the world on fire. The trials leading into this prep indicate that she is right where she needs to be to win this.

3. Ashford Street is so consistent and was very close to winning three starts back down the straight.

5. Paperboy comes back to 1200m from 1400m after a little freshen-up, but is racing with great heart.
