Dubbo Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Highest Standard
Young trainer William Freedman has been placing his runners quite well on the Country NSW circuit and with one of the more progressive gallopers in his stable, this looks a good second-up option.
While he didn't want it any shorter than 1100m on debut, the son of Deep Field knuckled down late and chased hard to secure a Narromine victory, bettering the times of both Benchmark races on that October 17 program and while not disgraced, he wasn't quite as comfortable on Heavy ground at start two.
Highest Standard bounced straight back to win at Scone before being tipped out and off a quiet trial, never travelled like the winner first-up where he was a notable drifter ($3.00-$4.00) but had that tenacity to find the line late and get it done, a great attribute in any galloper let alone one working through the lower grades.

Dubbo Value Bet - Race 6 No. 15 Narrow Neck Nelson
While it's a poor overall record, it's quite an ordinary race that this six-year-old faces this Friday and with placings last winter behind The Sledgehammer and Eva's Deel, two handy Country gallopers, he's clearly a more capable runner than the low rating suggests.
Bringing up win two over the mile in August before being spelled, Narrow Neck Nelson is going as well as ever, starting this campaign at Dubbo where he was three-wide the trip in a slightly stronger event to this before going to the 1400m at Orange and catching the eye late for second behind Fearless Mila.
He meets that runner again, but does look the better suited of the two by this rise to 1600m and despite the numbers of more accomplished opposition higher on the list, very few of them are going well at present which presents an opportunity to this gelding down in weights and from a good draw.
