Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Kadavar

The New Zealand-bred gelding is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Miami Bound and cost connections $300,000 at Book 1 of the 2022 Karaka Sale.

While the three-year-old failed to shine at Randwick in his first barrier trial, he performed better when a close-up third of three at Warwick Farm subsequently.

Trained by Chris Waller, Kadavar made the perfect start to his racing career when successful by half-a-length in a 1666m maiden contest at Ipswich earlier this month.

The son of Tarzino finished strongly, having raced from off the pace that day and shaped as if the step up in distance he gets here would suit.

He is expected to have improved for the experience of that debut effort and he finds a thin Class 1 on Wednesday.

Gillian Heinrich’s gelding failed to shine in his first three start, beating just two of his 32 rivals and jumping at triple-figure odds in two of those contests.

Whisky Train took a marked step forward when placing second in an 1100m maiden on a Good 3 at Beaudesert in August.

The four-year-old proved that effort was fluke when placing second, having jumped at odds of $31 in a twelve-runner maiden over this course and distance later that month.

A second top-three finish at this venue followed when beaten less than half-a-length over 1350m in September, with Whisky Train spelled following a fourth at the Sunshine Coast in October.

He raced over 1600m at Sunshine Coast, but should have no issues dropping back in trip, especially fresh.
