Cranbourne Tips September 19

Ladbrokes Own Spring 3yo Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Cranbourne Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Ahha Ahha

A $250,000 purchase at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2023 the filly registered some good efforts in jumpouts prior to making her debut.

The pick’s final jumpout saw her register a victory in an 800m contest held on a soft 5 surface at this venue last month.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner went on to deliver a good effort when contesting an eight-runner 1100m maiden on Pakenham’s synthetic track subsequently.

The selection got across from a wide barrier to race close to the speed prior to being beaten less than half-a-length in finishing second that day.

The winner of that contest has given the form a boost by winning at Benchmark 64 level at Seymour subsequently.

Clinton McDonald’s representative is expected to have improved for that effort and it’s of note that she is equipped with a tongue tie for the first time.

An inside barrier is a positive here and switched to turf and stepping up to 1200m she is taken to break her maiden at the second attempt.

Cranbourne Roughie - Race 6 No. 6 Guerrera

The five-year-old demonstrated good form last prep including when placing second in a small field metro event over 1200m at Moonee Valley at the start of March.

The daughter of Toronado went on to finish third in a couple of Benchmark 64 handicap races here including when beaten just over a length in a 1300m event.

The pick raced on a good 4 track when attempting to make all that day and she was spelled following a down the field effort at Morphettville in April.

The mare has been ridden with slightly more restraint this prep including when beaten just over three lengths into sixth over 1300m at Sandown earlier this month.

The return to country-level racing is a positive here as is the drop to a Benchmark 64 handicap with the soft 5 track unlikely to be an issue having placed on similar going in the past.

Richard Laming’s representative has a rail barrier here and may prove up to springing a surprise.

Cranbourne Value Bet - Race 7 No. 11 New York Scandal

The Manhattan Rain mare has shown a liking for this venue in the past placing second twice and winning once from her three starts here.

The win came over this track and trip in a maiden in September last year while she followed up with a good second over 1500m here two weeks later.

The five-year-old has in good form on Pakenham’s synthetic track of late including when winning over this distance in a Benchmark 58 handicap three starts back.

While Aaron Laing’s mare could finish only sixth over the same track and trip next time she was inconvenienced early on and can be forgiven that effort.

A confirmed stayer the pick arrives here on the back of a close second over 1600m when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap.

The selection has gone well on wet tracks in the past and jumping from barrier five looks value to record her second win at this track.

Cranbourne Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Mornington Pier

Ciaron Maher’s gelding performed with credit in maiden company in 2023 including when third over 1850m at Newcastle thirteen months ago.

The pick broke his maiden second up last prep when delivering a narrow margin victory in an 1880m Class 1 set weights contest at Newcastle in February.

The pick raced on a soft 5 track that day and was highly-tried subsequently contesting the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes and Listed VRC St Leger on his final two starts that prep.

The four-year-old was spelled following a last place finish in the second of those races and caught the eye when resuming at Bendigo last month.

Dropping to 1400m and a Restricted 64 handicap the selection did best of those to race from off the pace when finishing strongly for second.

The gelding raced on a soft 5 track that day and with similar underfoot conditions expected and the step up to 1600m in his favour he is taken to go one better in this field.
