Cranbourne Tips May 24

Grand Ridge Arenas Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Cranbourne Value Bet - Race 3 No. 9 Our Bonnio Miss

Trained by John Moloney the filly has registered creditable efforts when jumping at big odds in all three starts this prep.

Those efforts include a fourth when contesting a twelve-runner 1600m maiden on a soft 5 track at Werribee on her penultimate outing.

While beaten nearly eight lengths that day she caught the eye in staying on nicely from off the pace having been slow to begin in that contest.

The selection jumped from a wide barrier at Werribee and registered a good effort when placing third at this venue when last in action a week ago.

The return to a forecast soft surface should prove no issue here while jockey Patrick Moloney should have options with regard to tactics from barrier seven.

The daughter of Highland Reel is bred to appreciate this distance and she looks value to salute despite disappointing over 2025m here in January.

Cranbourne Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Bodhisattva

The son of So You Think showed plenty of ability in his first prep racing finishing in the first three in all six starts following a debut four at Werribee in June last year.

The pick resumed with his sixth second-place finish when beaten under four lengths when runner-up in a 1200m maiden at Seymour last month.

Nick Ryan’s representative kept on nicely in the straight having raced from mid-division when encountering a good 4 track in that contest.

The four-year-old broke his maiden when jumping at $1.60 for a maiden contest over this course and distance last month.

The selection was ridden closer to the speed that day and got home by a narrow margin when racing on a soft 7 surface.

Jockey Matthew Cartwright, on board that day is again set to ride and with a good barrier and that win under his belt his mount looks capable of following up.

Cranbourne Feature Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Jaykayann

The New Zealand-bred gelding won three times in 2023 with all three of those victories coming on wet tracks.

Those triumphs included an impressive six-length victory in a 2400m Benchmark 64 handicap on the Hillside track at Sandown just over a year ago.

While unable to add to that win in two subsequent starts he delivered a highly promising effort on his return to Sandown last week.

The pick was making his first appearance since July last year when fourth in a Benchmark 70 handicap over 1600m that day.

Patrick Payne’s representative was beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths having jumped from a wide barrier in that event.

The selection has won second up in the past while the step up in distance is also in his favour.

Patrick Payne’s representative will again jump from a wide barrier but with forecast underfoot conditions to suit he is taken to deliver a victory under Billy Egan.

Rhino the Wrecker BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Cranbourne Best Bet - Race 8 No. 3 Scorsese

The three-year-old has been in good form in 2024 finishing outside the first four just once in seven starts with that effort coming in a $75,000 maiden contest at Pakenham.

The gelding has gone on to register two wins subsequently including in a maiden at Colac next time.

The selection’s second victory came when successful by one-and-a-half-lengths in a 1000m event at this track last month.

The son of Written By contested a Benchmark 58 handicap when racing on a soft 6 track and he is expected to encounter similar underfoot conditions in this event.

The pick delivered a highly creditable effort when third in a Benchmark 64 handicap over 1000m on the Hillside track at Sandown when last in action May 8.

Emily Poznan, on board when winning over this course and distance returns to the saddle here and barrier seven shouldn’t pose too many issues for the three-year-old.
