Caulfield Tips June 13

Race 1 - 12:05PM Sportsbet Photo Finish Refund Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 2. Enna's Dream. She's a well-found fav in the early market and now fourth-up, where the step back up in distance is in her favour, it's close to D-Day here for Enna's Dream.

Enna's Dream put the writing on the wall with a slashing return over 1100m here and then when stepping to 1400m second-up, she was a little one-paced, but still stuck on for third.

The three-year-old was hard to miss last start when five weeks between runs and she put two lengths on Patchouli Dream there, who beat a handy Invader Zim last Saturday.
Value: 3. Into You. This Shay Keating-trained filly could easily be the best horse in the race, with the resuming youngster moving very well via a July 4 jump-out.

It was a long first campaign from Into You, who was tried at Group level after a dominant Sandown performance at start three and she was spelled after the Australasian Oaks.

She was tried over longer trips, however, Into You may be more effective in the 1400m-1600m range, with the main query first-up on Saturday being a soft track.

Race 2 - 12:35PM Sportsbet Feed Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 13. Rogue Rocker. While he's often been effective when produced on the fresh side, I suspect that Rogue Rocker had a little setback after his strong Caulfield return.

The gelding was a notable drifter when five weeks between runs at Sandown and despite appearing a little disappointing there, he ran the fastest last 200m of that July 3 race.

1400m is ideal third-up and a shorter turnaround tells us that he's on track, while he's effective on all surfaces (hasn't missed the money on heavy ground and won twice on soft).

Value: 8. Federal. Given the 12-month absence, the market was always going to oppose this McEvoy-trained import, although he showed enough via his first Australian prep.

Federal contested a stronger race via his Down Under debut over this track/trip and he should've finished closer than the sixth-of-twelve, as he was held-up at a key stage.

He was then strong late in Adelaide before a spell and while he'll likely improve from this, the son of Zoffany has completed two winter jump-outs and the latest was over 1400m.

Race 3 - 1:10PM Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 5. Turbinado. Tough race, as we have varying form lines around the raced brigade, who are mostly at differing stages of their preps and there's also promising first starters.

Turbinado is a Godolphin filly set to resume in her second campaign and she's looked sharp off recent lead-up work, with a Werribee jump-out win and a third via a Flemington heat.

There were excuses for her start two flop (heat stress and slow recovery), which followed a debut victory on soft ground at Newcastle and she's bred to eat up a wet track.

Value: 15. Sirena. This debutante is the first foal out of the talented mare Fidelia, who placed multiple times at Group level and Robbie Griffiths is in the ownership (he trained Fidelia).

Fidelia was a debut winner at a similar stage (late two-year-old) on soft ground and her daughter has always shown ability at the jump-outs, which includes two winter hit-outs.

Sirena was under a decent hold via the last of those Cranbourne workouts, where her work past the line stood out and this filly has the tactical speed to use a good draw.

Race 4 - 1:45PM Sportsbet Fast Form Handicap Tips (2000m)

Best: 12. Just Landed. The fav is Rezone, who brings the right form from Flemington, although the market elect was 40/1 there and he was one of the few in that race who got the right run.

Just Landed is one of a few at longer odds who I could speck, with this three-year-old suited out to 2000m third-up off a third at Pakenham and he overcame plenty of trouble there.

He's looked a different horse since the ultimate gear change, having backed up a slick jump-out win to place first-up after racing keenly, although wet ground is an unknown.

Value: 6. Pure Grunt. I'm a little surprised that a double-figure quote is available for Pure Grunt, who backed up a nice debut performance when breaking through at Pakenham.

While he only saluted by a narrow margin, the gelding was in for the fight late via that June 24 event and in third there was Boom Bang, who then won well at Sandown.

Blinkers go on for start three and he's shown tactical versatility, having settled on the speed last start after going back on debut, so Patrick Maloney has options from gate eleven.

Race 5 - 2:20PM Sportsbet Nobody Does It Easier Handicap Tips (2000m)

Best: 10. Little Jack. Cranbourne trainer Alex Rae only has a very small team, but he always seems to have a good one in work and he has Little Jack on a hat-trick bid here.

The lightly raced four-year-old is putting together a tidy record, with four wins and two seconds recorded since a debut flop, while he handled the rise to metro company with ease.

After campaigning on bigger circuits (Sale and Pakenham) before saluting over this track/trip on June 29, where he bolted in despite veering out under pressure and he stays in the same grade.
Value: 6. Unanimous. He's also first emergency for a BM88 at Randwick, but this is the much softer option for Unanimous, who is working towards win number six.

A son of Deep Field who is effective on all surfaces, the gelding improved off a first-up flop to finish fifth-of-fifteen second-up at Randwick and he was in the worst going there.

He was a 1400m to 1800m last start when putting in an honest display at Rosehill and he's looking for 2000m of that run (last win was over this trip on heavy ground).

Race 6 - 3:00PM Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap Tips (1700m)

Best: 15. Nation's Call. The Griffiths & de Kock yard are taking this import through the grades, with the son of Frankel now stepping up to BM84 company after a BM70 win.

This is clearly harder, however, two metro winners have been produced from his latest event at Sandown, where Blake Shinn looked after him until very late in the piece.

Given he was around five weeks between runs third-up, I just wonder if there was a little setback, as he also dropped in slightly in trip and the extra furlong here is in his favour.

Value: 18. First Mate. This gelding always needs the fresh hit-out and while seventh-of-eleven doesn't read all that well, his Caulfield return over 1200m was a pass mark.

First Mate improved off that resumption for a sixth-of-fourteen finish over seven furlongs at Flemington and in the process, he ran the second-fastest last 200m of the race.

His record suggests that 1400m sees him out, but off his last start third at Ballarat with 62.5kg, this rise in trip is worth a try and he carries 7kg less for the climb in grade.

Race 7 - 3:40PM Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap Tips (1100m)

Best: 3. Oak Hill. I suspect that he's a prep or so away from fully furnishing, but this three-year-old does have ability and there were excuses via his latest run at Flemington.

After a slow start, he was then crowded and raced fiercely on the worst part of the straight, and while he was also held-up between the 500m and 200m, he'd run his race once out.

Oak Hill has been back to the jump-outs and worked well, while with Damian Lane back on and with this sprinter returning around a bend, I'll give him a chance to atone.

Value: 11. Tumbling. Gavin Bedggood excels with tried horses, albeit for a youngster who had shown potential for Ciaron Maher, it seemed strange that he was moved on.

Despite a good jump-out win, the market was against Tumbling on stable debut at Sale, where briefly loomed from off the speed before knocking up late (fitness?).

He's since won another jump-out and winkers go on second-up to sharpen him up, while perhaps he's best suited to these shorter sprints (his debut romp was over 1000m).

Race 8 - 4:15PM Sportsbet Sir John Monash Stakes Tips (1100m)

Best: 2. Recommendation. The 2024 John Monash Stakes is a tricky little affair, with just the eight acceptances and the market is with the two resuming gallopers.

Recommendation is just holding early favouritism, with the four-year-old working to the line well for third in a Cranbourne jump-out on July, 1, which was won by Mornington Glory (second fav).

Any further downgrades on a Soft 7 may not be ideal, although this honest sprinter hasn't finished out of the money on wet ground and he still has some upside.

Value: 1. Ashford Street. He's in good touch, having recorded a return win over 1000m here before a runner-up finish when stepping up to 1100m second-up.

There were excuses up the straight last start, where Ashford Street was held-up from the 500m and he was denied a run between a pair of rivals when seemingly travelling.

At metro level, he's proven to be more effective over five furlongs, but his first five wins were over 1100m (all on wet ground) and he can stalk the speed throughout from gate three.

Race 9 - 4:48PM Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 10. Lafargue. After sticking on well in restricted room first-up at a big price, this Danny O'Brien-trained galloper finished within a length of the winner at Flemington on June 22.

Lafargue had his chance in that last outing, however, it's worth noting his lack of second-up form in comparison to his excellent third-up record (unbeaten from three tries).

While he's up in grade here, it's a nothing affair for a BM100, which the ratings across the field suggest and now right down in the weights, he can peak third-up once again.
Value: 12. Regardsmaree. While he has ground to make up on some of these from a June 29 clash, but to the eye, I felt Regardsmaree found the line as well as anything in that race.

The clock backs that up, with the seven-year-old recording the fastest last 200m of the race and that followed an unlucky third-up run when covering ground at Sandown.

He's always going to need luck due to his racing pattern, albeit he's got a better chance if he sucks up from a lower draw and pounces late, rather than circling the entire field.
