Caulfield Tips September 23

Race 1 - 12:10PM Punters.com.au Handicap Tips (1600m)

Best: 3. Shock 'Em Ova. Class-wise, this lightly raced five-year-old has a fair bit on this restricted BM70 field and he arrives second-up after a narrow Sandown defeat, where he lost no admirers.

Considering the slow tempo and gate 10, Craig Williams rode him perfectly despite a wide run, as if he went back, the gelding would not have finished top five if asked to sprint home.

Suited up to 1600m in a field with more speed, this is a better set-up for Shock 'Em Ova, who finds his weakest assignment since taking out a Cranbourne maiden on debut.

Value: 6. Magnetic Prince. Although he doesn't exactly win out of turn, Magnetic Prince never runs a bad race, while a BM70 Geelong victory back in June has him somewhere in the mix here.

He was metro BM70 placed at the Sandown midweeks in July behind Bigolino, who is no slouch and his first look at Caulfield resulted in a fourth behind the flying First Mate on August 19.

The son of Magnus found trouble before flashing home at Casterton last start and along with gate three suiting, carrying 3kg less with Damien Oliver now riding is another tick.

Race 2 - 12:40PM Living Legends 4cyte Handicap Tips (2000m)

Best: 1. Full Of Sincerity. While he was at the end of his prep when well beaten in the Australian Derby, Full Of Sincerity did show potential before that, with the highlight being an NZ Derby third.

After placing behind a very handy Sharp 'N' Smart via that Group 1, he was an eye-catcher late on his Australian debut in the Group 2 Tulloch, which was contested over this journey.

Off his two-length defeat here fresh in a BM100, then he'd be a $5-$6 in this BM78, with the gelding down in grade after a Moonee Valley flop and there were excuses there.

Value: 3. She's Fit. She was unsuited staying at 1600m second-up, however, that Moonee Valley run was a pass mark for the WA Oaks winner, who was making her Victorian debut on September 9.

She's Fit was out-sprinted by the eventual quinella, but the four-year-old whacked away and did manage to open a decent margin on Queen Air, who was next home.

The last time she was at 2000m, She's Fit was a stride off winning the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and while she quickly rises in the weights, this is a decent drop in grade.

Race 3 - 1:15PM Pancare Recycal Plate Tips (1200m)

Best: 1. Red Card. A dual-listed winner that improved out of sight last season, Red Card recorded her first fresh victory on return at Rosehill on September 9 when leading throughout a fortnight ago.

Having beaten the likes of Smashing Eagle, Airman, Extremely Lucky and On The Lead, she now finds an easier race via this set weights and penalties dash against her own sex.

The Godolphin mare proved herself at six furlongs when taking out a stakes race in Junel, while her two biggest peaks have both come second-up, so there's no knocks.

Red Card - $1.70Caulfield Race Threebet now

Value: 5. Blistering. This mare did take a little while to find her feet early, but she continued to improve with race experience and she proved in her last prep that she was Saturday class.

Blistering had been building well ahead of her victory on Pakenham Cup day, with placings behind Megamea, Invincible Caviar and Najeem Sohail being decent references for this.

With good fresh stats and arriving off a strong jump-out win on her home circuit at Moe, the five-year-old isn't hopeless, albeit she may have to go back from a wide draw.

Race 4 - 1:50PM Here For The Horses Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 11. Yellow Sam. After recording a hat-trick on the country circuit, including a stylish July return victory at Donald, Yellow Sam has handled the rise to metro level via her last two.

Her 1100m performance on August 19 suggested she was crying out for 1400m and that was the case, with the Lindsey Smith-trained mare taking ground off Nunthorpe late.

She has a massive 4.5kg weight swing on that rival from their September 2 clash here and while there's another wide gate to overcome, Yellow Sam is tactically versatile.

Value: 1. Laced Up Heels. Coming back in grade to a BM84 after contesting two stakes races, we'll get a much better gauge on Laced Up Heels third-up with the step to 1400m a positive.

She was beaten just over half a length in the Listed Regal Roller fresh when working home on the inferior ground and while a little plain last start, she did cover ground.

The daughter of Toronado beat a star in Amelia's Jewel via her first try at this trip and she finished fourth in a Group 2 at Sandown in February when last over this journey.

Race 5 - 2:25PM Down Syndrome Vic Jim Moloney Stakes Tips (1400m)

Best: 6. Miracle Of Love. A superbly bred filly, being by Dundeel and out of a five-time Group 1 winner in Miss Finland, Miracle Of Love brings easily the best exposed form among these.

Having broken through at start two after a listed third on debut, she rounded out that first prep with a second in the Group 1 Atkins and she never gave up behind King Colorado.

That colt was unlucky in the Winx Stakes and is a leading chance in the Golden Rose, so while this blueblood was just fair in a recent trial win, her race day form stands out in a filly's race.

Value: 5. Coco Sun. Although it was only a narrow winning margin, there was plenty of merit to the debut victory at Geelong, where the McEvoy galloper sustained a wide run to salute.

Coco Sun then crossed the border to record a black-type win at start two and Dubenenko was among the beaten brigade, a filly that was very unlucky in the Group 1 Blue Diamond.

She went to the line under her own steam in a recent jump-out and for an unbeaten youngster that should only improve as a three-year-old on breeding, she's decent odds.

Race 6 - 3:00PM Equine Pathways Lamaro's Testa Rossa Tips (1400m)

Best: 10. Amenable. He looked a much sharper horse in his lead-up work, as opposed to last prep and he backed that up fresh when proving too classy for Devoted, who did win his next attempt.

A shot at the stumps via the Memsie Stakes followed and that Group 1 WFA effort was superb, where Amenable came from an awkward position to grab fifth in that feature.

At set weights, he's finished fifth behind Mr Brightside, I Wish I Win and Alligator Blood, which is elite form and he would've gone closer if not held up at a key stage.

Value: 3. Red Sun Sensation. This gelding completed a solid piece of work when taking out a September 12 jump-out at Pakenham, with that recent hit-out suggesting that he's forward.

A Group 3 winner over 2000m in late April, Red Sun Sensation was then tipped out after a four-length SA Derby defeat, while he has proven sharp enough over shorter trips.

Those performances include a six-furlong maiden triumph over Demon Award and at 1400m, he placed behind Gringotts and Helix back in March, so he's not exactly dour.

Race 7 - 3:40PM Neds Caulfield Guineas Prelude Tips (1400m)

Best: 2. Veight. While the subsequent form through Legacies failed to pan out last week, it takes nothing away from his return victory in the McNeil Stakes, with the step to 1400m suiting now.

Veight now takes on the unbeaten Steparty, with the Paul Preusker-trained three-year-old the Caulfield Guineas fav, albeit that's a market that could change after this and the Golden Rose.

There's arguably more depth overall to the form lines of Veight, as opposed to the market elect and at the current prices, the McEvoy three-year-old gets the nod on Saturday.

Value: 5. Scheelite. Spelled after saluting twice over shorter sprints back in the autumn, Scheelite has given the impression in two outings this campaign that he's looking for 1400m.

The son of Real Steel now gets his chance over seven furlongs after making ground for a fifth in the McNeil and that effort followed a solid Vain Stakes return behind Cylinder.

With another wide draw, they may have to ride him again, although in the lead-up it's been all about settling early so he can be strong at the end of these longer trips.

Race 8 - 4:20PM Catanach's Jewellers Mrc Foundation Cup Tips (2000m)

Best: 17. Alaskan God. With 2000m+ in mind, I thought he was the run of the Feehan Stakes, with Alaskan God closing off strongly from the rear in what was his Victorian debut at Moonee Valley.

Through the four that finished ahead of him in that Group 2, you can tie that form back through Mr Brightside, as they were all behind that superstar here in the PB Lawrence Stakes.

The 2022 WA Derby winner still needs a scratching to sneak into this final field and should that occur, I was happy to lean his way in what was otherwise a very open affair.

Value: 4. Regal Power. Despite being a two-time Group 1 victor and winner of the second running of the All-Star Mile at Caulfield back in 2020, Regal Power appears to be sneaking under the radar.

A galloper that has had setbacks since the summer of 2021, he did look completely gone in a short autumn prep, as well as the PB Lawrence resumption when beaten nearly 11 lengths.

Given he has no fresh form, the improved showing in the Heatherlie Stakes wasn't exactly a shock and he did take out the Group 1 Kingston Town via his last third-up attempt.

Race 9 - 4:55PM Live Life Foundation Underwood Stakes Tips (1800m)

Best: 8. Without A Fight. With two brilliant wins over the Brisbane Winter, which includes a soft victory in a strong edition of the Q22, he was spelled with the Melbourne Spring Carnival majors in mind.

With victory in the Underwood Stakes, he could easily be the new favourite for the 2023 Caulfield Cup on Saturday night and 1800m at WFA level in a thin Group 1 is the ideal starting point.

He did win over this trip when resuming in that short Brisbane prep and with three hit-outs ahead of this return, which includes a trial win on September 4, he has a solid grounding.

Value: 15. Duais. Craig Williams takes the ride on the Edward Cummings-trained mare, who is a little while between drinks, but she has a decent third-up record and that includes an Australian Cup win last year.

Following a slashing fresh effort in the Winx Stakes, there were excuses in her last start Chelmsford Stakes effort, given it was a race where the backmarkers weren't able to figure.

Also, it's worth noting that Duais had no winning second-up form going into that most recent outing and vs a lot of one-paced rivals here, she is one with brilliance when right.

Race 10 - 5:25PM Rule Henley Homes Sprint Tips (1100m)

Best: 10. On The Lead. He's not the easiest horse to place, as the gelding has to carry big imposts when contesting BM88's in Sydney, where he's often giving weight and ground to progressive rivals.

Now finding a BM100 where he gets in with 54.5kg vs sprinters on his level, this is the best set-up he'll get all spring and as he showed last prep, On The Lead loves a Melbourne visit.

His summer and autumn form around Kallos, Star Patrol and I Am Me reads nicely for this, while he was okay first-up at Rosehill a fortnight ago when back in a leaders race.

Value: 14. Gemma's Son. Recommendation did salute as a good thing should at The Valley on September 9 and making the biggest impression behind him in that 1200m event was this WA visitor.

A six-year-old that is just shy of $1 million in earnings, Gemma's Son acquitted himself well in that Victorian debut and as a versatile sprinter, dropping back 100m shouldn't worry him.

Although he didn't progress too much after a stellar two-year-old season, his three winter outings in Perth and that recent Moone Valley run were all encouraging.
