Canterbury Tips April 30
Vinnie Three Time Champion Sire Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Bellenth
Second-up in his first prep, the Kim Waugh-trained galloper broke through in style at Wyong and he was then given time after failing in a metro BM68 at Randwick last autumn.
Against two market elects who are both resuming on testing ground, Bellenth has a fitness advantage, with the gelding arriving here third-up.
There was merit in both April runs, with Bellenth narrowly beaten fresh after covering ground and he was the pick of the speed brigade last start in a fast-run race.
Cogburn Worlds Fastest Horse @ Widden Tips (Race 5)
Canterbury Roughie - Race 5 No. 5 Clear Proof
Although he was well held second-up at Warwick Farm, it was an improved effort from Clear Proof, who was beaten a long way first-up at Listed level.
He did show ability early, with a debut victory followed by a runner-up finish at Listed level and it's worth noting that he had blinkers on for those wet track attempts.
Blinkers go back on Clear Proof for Wednesday's third-up assignment, where he's on testing ground and the three-year-old was gelded ahead of this second campaign.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Canterbury Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 I Am The Empire
There were excuses for his second-up loss at Hawkesbury, where I Am The Empire covered ground over 1800m and he also pulled up lame from that event.
The six-year-old saluted prior to that when first-up at Randwick-Kensington and the placegetters both franked that March 26 form (Campaldino won his next two starts).
I Am The Empire does have a big weight to carry on a wet track, but he also has a fitness platform and the son Camelot drops in grade for this third-up tilt.
Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Island Dec
Despite her recent misses, Island Dec has the ability to measure up in black-type company, however, the three-year-old needs to be more mature for those stronger races.
She never settled in the run when contesting the PJ Bell Stakes and for now, the drop in distance and a perhaps a colder ride can bring her back to winning form.
Island Dec overcame trouble when saluting at Canterbury first-up and she could be looking for a wet track (all three wins have come on rain affected ground).
