Canterbury Tips September 18
Exceedance's First Yearlings Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Mergeila
She's been given time since a solid debut on July 20 and J-Mac takes the reins for this return assignment, with the champion hoop also aboard via a recent trial.
The form through that Rosehill event has stood up through Mayfair, who placed at stakes level via his next two, while Mawjood beat a handy Tarpaulin the start prior.
A lack of experience told at a key stage of that first race day outing, where she lacked the nous to take a gap and that event rated very well for the class on that card.
James Squire Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Canterbury Roughie - Race 4 No. 8 Doraskaya
She is up in grade fourth-up from the provincials, however, with the majority of this line-up rated 70 or below, it isn't a strong BM72 and this mare is in good touch.
Following a solid return over 1350m, Doraskaya pounced off a strong tempo when stepping to a mile and she got the better of Malabar (second fav here) in the process.
The five-year-old stayed at 1600m third-up and she was unlucky in that September 6 outing, while it's worth noting that she was around five weeks between runs there.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Misterkipchoge
This Chris Waller-trained galloper will get over a little further, but he broke through over a similar trip and his most recent fresh effort was better than it reads.
Misterkipchoge was respected in the market ahead of that 1300m resumption at Warwick Farm and over a distance that was too short, he was doing his best work late.
He's still a work in progress, however, the son of Ocean Park has potential and Nash Rawiller takes back the reins on Wednesday (he was on for the January victory).
Precise Air Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Canterbury Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Terrestar
Given the lack of first-up form on paper and with her three prior wins coming over more ground, Terrestar could easily drift in the market closer to the jump.
The Team Hawkes mare has had excuses in prior returns, with the five-year-old in restricted room fresh last winter and she covered ground first-up in January this year.
Terrestar recorded a well-deserved win at Canterbury before a spell and ahead of this fresh tilt, she worked as well as a smart Broadsiding in a Rosehill trial on September 5.
