Canterbury Value Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Diamond Model
Although she was well held in third, it was still a decent resumption via a Saturday BM72 from Diamond Model and that form has stood up through Cigar Flick and In Flight.
The four-year-old improved off that return to finish second over this track/trip on June 19 and despite covering ground, she was only edged out by Iron Man, who had a softer run.
While she goes up in the weights from that second-up assignment, the mare is back against her own sex third-up and with a kinder run in transit, she should be thereabouts here.
James Squire Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Yasuke
He's going to improve from Wednesday's resumption, especially over a little more ground deeper in the prep, however, Yasuke will likely prosper in the 1400m-1600m range.
The Chris Waller-trained galloper didn't run out a strong 2000m when on a Queensland Derby path last year and after failing to progress in three spring runs, he returns as a gelding.
Without being knocked about, his work through the line behind Silentstar in a June 11 trial was hard to miss and he's since completed a 1030m hit-out on soft ground at Rosehill.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Chief Conductor
This lightly raced five-year-old brings strong first-up form line for this BM72, with Chief Conductor down in grade after rattling home for a fifth-of-fourteen finish on return.
The son of I Am Invincible recorded the fastest closing splits of the June 8 Randwick card and that's an easy race to like with this event in mind, given The Black Cloud won in Melbourne.
Over 1100m from a good draw, Chief Conductor can settle closer, as was evident last prep when saluting over this track/trip and the 60.5kg should be fine under a compressed scale.
All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Canterbury Roughie - Race 7 No. 5 Dr Evil
With almost no first-up form to his name and arriving to his June 12 return off only one lead-up trial, now much was expected from Dr Evil first-up and he ran accordingly.
The veteran was also in the back half of the field in a race where nothing made ground, so it's a run worth forgiving and he did win second-up last prep off a similar return.
He's a seasoned performer who thrives on heavy ground and over a more suitable trip on Wednesday, Dr Evil can chime in late at big odds off what looks a decent tempo up front.
