ADMIRE MARS AT ARROWFIELD HANDICAP Tips (Race 1)
Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Construct
There was a decent opinion of this colt early days, and catching the eye with a debut second behind the subsequent Magic Millions winner Shaquero, was tipped out with a Blue Diamond preparation in mind.
Construct had some excuses when shuffled back in the Blue Diamond Prelude before a fair effort in the Blue Diamond, holding his ground for a midfield finish, but was ultimately outclassed behind the likes of Artorius, Ingratiating, Anamoe and Finance Tycoon.
The trials ahead of his June 16 return were stronger than his prior work, winning two heats ahead of a resumption where he got well out of his ground before getting home late in an 1100m Maiden that rated well for the card.
CHINA HORSE CLUB HANDICAP Tips (Race 3)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Seleque
While the outside gate in this field of seven isn't exactly ideal, this filly doesn't necessarily have to lead under Tommy Berry who stays aboard following a strong first-up victory on June 30 at Warwick Farm.
That made in two wins in a row for Seleque who prevailed in a strong Class 1 at Gosford on April 1 prior to being tipped out, and she does bring the best recent form for this content, while only going up half a kilo in the weights.
The daughter Deep Field managed hold a safe margin on Van Giz via that most recent victory, a mare that franked the form with a win last Saturday and staying on a heavy track, she's found another very winnable assignment.
SKY RACING HANDICAP Tips (Race 4)
Canterbury Value Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Arctic Thunder
Resuming off a short spell and with a nice tick-over trial is this filly from the Gary Portelli stable, a yard that is enjoying a profitable winter with 12 winners from 54 starters since the beginning of June.
With four wins and as many placings from 11 career starts to date, Arctic Thunder is very genuine and with both victories this year coming on heavy ground, Wednesday's testing conditions shouldn't faze her.
First-up at Gosford, she had more than a length to spare on All Hallow's Eve, a subsequent Group Three winner in the autumn and while tested over further most recently, the 1200m-1400m trips look more suitable.
