IRON JACK HANDICAP Tips (Race 2)
Canterbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Mount Fuji
While the connections are light years away from recouping anywhere the $2.8 million that was dished out to secure this colt as a yearling, in a modest Maiden on January 22, he at least gets his chance to breakthrough at start number three following a nice return on December 9.
After an ordinary debut showing in January 2020, albeit in a performance with post-race issues (poor recovery), he was given plenty of time following a trial in February when ridden out and in all public hit-outs prior to this preparation, it's clear to see that the son of Snitzel has returned in much better order.
Mount Fuji has had another trial ahead of this second-up attempt, making good late ground to take out a January 15 heat at Rosehill and with Sydney's leading rider James McDonald taking the reins on Friday, he gets his chance now stepping up to a more suitable trip.
THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Canterbury Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Laila De Vega
This five-year-old doesn't exactly win out of the turn, but barring the back-end of her last campaign, she has been very consistent over the journey and has been thereabouts in all three runs this time in, despite an unlucky performance on December 17.
At 30/1, Laila De Vega was a little unlucky not have won first-up when diving through along the fence to just miss Invasion Day on the line and with no second-up form, it was easy to forgive the Randwick-Kensington effort when trying to work home in what effectively quicksand on that card, with the fast lane out wide.
Although never threatening, her last start effort at Canterbury had merit when making ground off a muddling tempo (put a big space on the rest of the field) and in a very similar race here, she is more than double her price compared to that January 8 outing.

PHIL GILBERT KIA EVENING STAR - SPRINT SERIES HEAT 2 Tips (Race 7)
Canterbury Each-Way Bet - Race 7 No. 9 On Her Word
Following a Maiden victory, she was spelled after a third-placed finish behind Haut Brion Her (arguably the best sprinting mare in the country now) and has had just the two starts since, the first of which resulted in a second behind Brazenpine but did defeat a handy one in Peak (won two of his next three) in the process.
Her most recent outing was a Wyong resumption on December 16 where although she was disappointing as a beaten favourite, the five-year-old never settled with the apprentice on and after over-racing throughout, had nothing left in the tank for the run home.
We know the talent is there with On Her Word, who had trialled superbly in the lead-up to that attempt (fastest 800m heat on November 25/33.50 last 600m which was comfortably the slickest for that morning) and with some freshness subsiding along with a senior hoop now going on, she could improve out of sight here.
