CAPEL VALE WINERY MAIDEN Tips (Race 4)
Bunbury Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Freedomofthepress
Despite being beaten badly for speed early, it was hard to miss the January 14 debut from this three-year-old who made up a stack of ground late over the 1000m at Pinjarra where despite finishing seven of 12, was only a stride or so off grabbing third on the line.
By the 2015 Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement and out of a versatile mare who won over as far as 1800m, Freedomofthepress did look suited going straight to the 1400m on January 27 but after travelling well on the speed, offered nothing once coming off the bridle.
There is a take on trust element attached following that effort but he still managed to hold off a key rival here in Miss Voodoo while with the tongue tie going on, there's a good chance he choked down in that attempt and off the debut effort, should be a clear favourite in this event.
BUNBURY PLUMBING SERVICES MAIDEN Tips (Race 6)
Bunbury Value Bet - Race 6 No. 3 It's A Lance
Although conceding the odds-on favourite Pure Devotion is the one to beat off an eye-catching debut, it wasn't a strong Maiden that he rattled home in and there was as much merit in the second-up performance of this three-year-old on January 27.
By Blackfirars and out of the dam Idyllic Queen, a half-sister to the multiple Group winner Idyllic Prince, It's A Lance was solid in his September 2 debut but with two flat performances that followed, he was tipped out and resumed at Pinjarra on January 14 where he held his ground and finished just over a length off the promising What About Moi.
Sitting three-wide on a good speed in that last outing, he was very brave in holding on for second from Powerful Force (favourite in Race 3) while with barrier three here, Lucy Warwick can give him a much kinder run on the speed and fitter now third-up, he can give a good sight at a double figure quote.
JCW ELECTRICAL HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Bunbury Best Bet - Race 9 No. 9 Testing Love
With a host of strong chances in the famous cerise and white at Bunbury this Thursday, pinpointing just one of them is somewhat of a challenge but with some handy form around her, this filly is well placed as one of the few runners with upside in this field.
A half-sister to Disposition (multiple Stakes winner), Testing Love went around as favourite on debut back in November and despite recording the fastest last 600m of that contest, had to settle for second to No Surrender, a galloper that subsequently won three more races in town, which reads superbly for this Provincial Class 1.
Prior to her maiden win on December 2, this three-year-old ran into another handy one in Sheza Chalmer, a mare that bolted away in slick time via her next outing and better suited staying at this 1400m trip, she can camp off a good speed under William Pike and be produced late.
