CHAFF CITY MAIDEN Tips (Race 2)
Bunbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 3 Dancing Jack
Trainer Roy Rogers is great form at present having saddled up 10 winners at a strike rate of 25% this year and in the second from Bunbury on Australia Day, gets a great opportunity to build further on that record with this five-year-old.
Following a plain first-up performance over the five furlongs, the son of Ouqba has improved in two subsequent attempts and proved the chasing second-up effort at cricket score odds was no fluke by stepping up to Class 2 level and recording a race-fastest last 600m (35:31) when catching the eye as runner-up on January 17.
Along with the drop in class back to Maiden company on Tuesday, a good lead is the engagement of "The Wizard" William Pike, especially given there is a pair of Adam Durrant runners and one from the Daniel & Ben Pearce yard, two stables that the champion hoop does combine with regularly.
MISTY VALLEY THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Bunbury Each-Way Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Classic Chant
Although wary of a bounce back with the favourite Cuballing, who had some excuses fresh and on ability, may have these covered, he is certainly short enough at an odds-on quote which does open up value for some of his rivals.
One that does fall into that category is this lightly raced mare who has been three-wide the trip on both occasions this preparation and while failing as a result of that second-up, was brave fresh when only reeled in by Weaponson late, with his later city performance through Platinum Bullet reading superbly for this grade.
Classic Chant has been freshened-up since that December 16 run and now finally drawing a barrier in four where Maddi Derrick can do less work, albeit still on what looks a good speed, she's a good each-way chance with arguably the best recent form of any galloper in this line-up.
AMELIA PARK HANDICAP Tips (Race 8)
Bunbury Value Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Fa'lion Machine
With a great second-up profile (two wins and two placings from five attempts), this underrated six-year-old from the Graeme Ballantyne yard is a good price in what does look a very suitable assignment following the fresh return at Ascot.
Off a very good December 29 trial when blocked in the run home at Lark Hill, Fa'lion Machine was supported at big odds ($41-$26) on January 9 despite having no first-up form and worked home well in restricted room, recording the second fastest last 600m (34:53) of that 1200m contest.
Three of her five career wins have come over this Bunbury circuit and from barrier six, we're looking for Madi Derrick to ideally stay off the fence early on the daughter of Maschino who as one of the class runners in the field, can finish over the top late if they're able to make ground.
