Bendigo Roughie - Race 2 No. 3 Chance Romance
The gelding demonstrated signs of ability in his first spell racing including when third of five in a 1400m maiden at Werribee in December last year.
All three of the pick’s starts this time around have come at Geelong jumping at big odds on each occasion including when runner-up over 1247m there in July.
The five-year-old was slowly away when racing on a soft 7 track that day but caught the eye in finishing strongly when wearing blinkers for the first time.
The winner that day has gone on to score since and while the selection failed to back that up when eighth over 1500m subsequently he kept on nicely in behind when beaten just over five lengths.
The booking of Jake Noonan takes the eye dropping back in distance while trainer Maddie Raymond’s impressive 19% strike-rate (6/31) with her runners here is a further positive.
Bendigo MG Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Bizot
The four-year-old broke her maiden at the second time of asking when successful by two lengths over 1200m at Ballarat in October last year.
The selection raced on a soft 5 track that day and was stepped up to Listed company following that triumph.
The first of those efforts saw Archie Alexander’s filly come home fourth in a sixteen-runner renewal of the 1400m Howden Desirable Stakes that day.
The pick was spelled following a below-par fifth in a small field event at Caulfield subsequently and she is set to make her handicap debut and first start of 2024 here.
The filly arrives here on the back of a couple of efforts in jumpouts while barrier nine shouldn’t pose too many issues given she has performed well from off the pace in the past.
Apprentice Tom Prebble takes a valuable two-kilogram’s off the daughter of I Am Invincible’s back and she is taken to resume with a win.
Bet365 Never Ordinary Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Bendigo Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Call To Glory
The four-year-old has been in great form since resuming with a third at Werribee in May finishing in the first two in all bar one of his six subsequent starts.
Those starts have included three wins including when racing from the front before coming home over three lengths clear of his rivals at Mount Gambier three starts back.
The pick raced on a soft 5 track that day and delivered his only disappointing effort this prep when fading into eighth over this course and distance subsequently.
A wide barrier was probably in part to blame for that below par effort which came on the gelding’s first outing on a heavy 8 surface.
Tom Dabernig’s representative was back to winning ways when successful by three-and-a-half-lengths in a similar race to this at Terang last time out however.
Apprentice Jordyn Weatherley knows the selection well and the pair look up to registering their third win together.
Adroit Insurance Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Bendigo Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Shigeru
Tayne Davies’ gelding won twice earlier this year including when taking out a 1540m Class 1 set weights contest on the polytrack at Gold Coast in February.
The five-year-old returned from a spell with a narrow victory in a 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap on a heavy 8 track at Murtoa in July.
The selection raced from the front prior to fading in two subsequent outings including over 1300m in a Benchmark 64 handicap held on a soft 6 surface here August 18.
The son of Kobayashi was beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths that day and again finished fourth when ridden with more restraint stepped up to 1400m here subsequently.
The pick contested a Restricted 64 handicap on that occasion and should have no issue stepping back up in distance for this event.
Jaylah Kennedy should have options tactics wise from barrier five and with an easy lead a possibility her mount looks value to return to winning ways.
