Bendigo Tips April 21

Budget Car & Truck Rental 2yo Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Bendigo Roughie - Race 1 No. 17 Zourain

The $180,000 yearling purchase demonstrated ability in two jump out’s prior to debuting at Pakenham a month ago.

The selection started at $3.90 for a 1200m maiden held on a good 4 surface at Pakenham as a result of those jump out efforts.

The colt tracked the early speed prior to fading late on when beaten just over six lengths into fifth on that occasion.

The son of Zousain struggled for a run at times in the straight and while unlikely to have troubled the leaders that looks a decent race with the winner following up at Caulfield.

The pick should appreciate the drop back in distance here while barrier five is a further positive.

The Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock team can boast a 24% strike-rate (4/17) here in the last 12 months and their representative may prove up to helping them improve on that.

Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Charmed Run

With a number in this field expected to want to race close to or on the speed this race may well be set up for a closer.

The four-year-old fits the bill in that regard having finished strongly from off the pace when contesting a Benchmark 78 handicap over this trip at Sandown Hillside last May.

The filly has made just two subsequent starts including when seventh of eight in an 1100m metro handicap for three-year-old fillies at Caulfield in July last year.

Luke Oliver’s representative was spelled following that effort and made a highly promising return dropped to this Benchmark 64 level at Cranbourne March 29.

The New Zealand-bred filly came home second, beaten just over a length in a race that has seen the two runners to emerge from the race both placed subsequently.

Billy Egan won on the pick over this trip at Mornington just over a year ago and the pair look up to teaming up for a second win together.

The Big Screen Company BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Bendigo Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Clavadatsch

The three-year-old broke her maiden in impressive fashion at the first attempt when contesting a three-runner race over this trip at Cranbourne in May last year.

The filly has registered some good efforts since including when taking a similar race to this in impressive fashion over course and distance in February.

The daughter of Justify came home over four lengths clear of her rivals when making all the running on a good 4 track that day.

While the pick failed to shine when down the field in a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap at Sandown Hillside subsequently it’s notable that she race at metro level that day.

The selection returned to form with a third in a similar race to this held on a soft 5 surface at Cranbourne earlier this month.

Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman the filly looks capable of overcoming a wide barrier to register the third win of her career.

The Bendigo Service Centre BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Bendigo Value Bet - Race 8 No. 11 Lightning Flash

Trainer Matt Laurie has his string in good form at present while the trainer boasts an impressive 44% strike-rate (4/9) when teaming up with jockey Ben Allen in the last 12 months.

The pair combine here with their representative having finished down the field in a 1400m Benchmark 70 handicap on a good 4 track at Sandown Lakeside at the start of this month.

The four-year-old was beaten just over three lengths that day having impressed when making all to salute by a similar margin in a 1400m handicap at Pakenham prior.

The pick raced at this Benchmark 64 level when making all at Pakenham, however, she has performed well when ridden with more restraint in the past.

That tactical versatility is helpful given she will jump from widest of all in this contest and she looks value to register a win with the 1500m distance no issue.
