Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 12 Somebodytolove
The three-year-old showed promise in his first two jumpouts earlier this year, following a fourth of six over 650m with a third in an 800m contest at Cranbourne in April.
Her two efforts this time around weren’t as positive and with that in mind, it was good to see Somebodytolove deliver a solid second when debuting at Ballarat on November 15.
Racing over 1200m on a good 4 track, she came from off the pace to be beaten less than a length when doing best of those ridden with restraint that day.
The winner of that contest made virtually all the running and the three-year-old is expected to have improved for the experience.
Trainer Grahame Begg arrives here in great form, with a 42% strike-rate (5/12) in the last 30 days and his representative looks capable of saluting at the second attempt.
Silks, Events & Functions Maiden Plate Tips (Race 6)
Bendigo Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Stardealt
Jason Warren’s gelding encountered plenty of issues, having been interfered with at the start and met trouble in running when making his debut at Pakenham on November 16.
The three-year-old jumped at odds of $26 that day, but delivered an eye-catching third, beaten nearly two-and-a-half-lengths in a 1400m contest that day.
The gelding raced from off the pace that day, having finished held in all five of his jump outs, including when fourth of seven over 1100m at Mornington at the start of last month.
The son of Dundeel shaped as if this step up to 1600m would suit at Pakenham, while he is expected to have improved for the experience.
Zac Spain is again in the saddle and with an easier barrier here, Stardealt looks up to breaking his maiden at the second attempt.
Apiam Animal Health BM58 Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Bendigo Roughie - Race 8 No. 11 Per Ivy
While the five-year-old has been out of form so far in 2023, she did show signs that a third career win might not be far away when fifth in a 1000m Benchmark 64 handicap at Pakenham last month.
Racing on a Good 4 track that day on her first start this prep, the mare kept on nicely from off the pace, having jumped from barrier nine on a good 4 track.
Per Ivy again jumps from barrier nine here and is again expected to race from off the pace, so it should set up okay on this big Bendigo circuit.
Notably, she gets a drop in grade to a Benchmark 58 handicap here second-up, having returned in a Benchmark 64.
Connections opted to skip a 955m Benchmark 64 contest at Moonee Valley on Friday to head here, which looks a smart decision.
Bowser Bean Cup BM58 Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Bendigo Value Bet - Race 9 No. 12 Prancing With Fire
Trainer Andrew Noblet boasts a 27% strike-rate (4/15) and an impressive return on investment from his runners at Bendigo in the last 12 months.
The handler’s representative here showed good form when narrowly beaten in a Benchmark 58 on fast going at Swan Hill when racing first-up this prep.
A below-par effort at Kyneton followed when Prancing With Fire was denied a run at a crucial stage, having jumped from a wide alley.
The daughter of Sir Prancealot has a wide alley once more, but heads into this event on the back of a good third when contesting a Benchmark 58 at Kyneton on November 20.
Madison Lloyd, on board that day, is again in the saddle and she looks value to deliver a victory on the four-year-old despite her poor barrier here.
