Bendigo Tips for February 23
Race Services Maiden Plate Tips (Race 4)
Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Cianna
Keen to play in this race with only three main chances, so siding with Cianna who has the blinkers going on for the first time.
This mare has great tactical speed and was very good last start behind Yuanno who subsequently wasn't disgraced at Group Two level, while second-up attempt from this four-year-old was a third behind two subsequent winners, so the form is strong.
She steps up to 2400m for the first time, but coming into this race fourth-up, I am confident that fitness is no issue.
There are knocks on the other two chances, Northeast Express is a non-winner and Energy Raider may be one short of running out a strong 2400m, so Cianna looks the play here.
Sheahan Plumbing BM58 Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Bendigo Best Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Davelliom
The blinkers coming off and back in trip was the key to this horse running so well last start in a much stronger race than what he faces today.
He was third behind Ripcord (potentially city class) and Queen Guinevere (honest), beating home Shepard who subsequently won in town, all much stronger form than a 58 rating race where he gets in with 58kg.
Davelliom loves the Bendigo circuit with three placings and a win from seven attempts, so although he is not a known winner, we can take confidence from the solid performance as this track last outing.
If he runs up to his last race, it is his race to lose, but the only little worry is the winning strike rate.
Drake International BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Bendigo Value Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Dune Field
I thought this gelding would be closer to favourite than near double figures that are available considering the strength of races it is has been running in this prep compared to his opposition.
Although he has not been winning, Dune filed was third last start in a strong event where the second horse subsequently won, while two runs back, was behind Zoushack who has since won teice at Flemington.
Kiata is the main danger on paper with the form next to her name arguably as strong as Dune Field, but these two are clear standouts.
Off a four-week freshen up, this gelding comes back a furlong in trip to the 1100m where he looks well placed and represents good each-way value.
