CROWN PERTH HANDICAP Tips (Race 3)
Belmont Value Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Temptacion
While there's no doubting this four-year-old will improve of whatever she does here first-up on Saturday, as a Stakes class galloper in what is practically a midweek quality field, class should be taking her a long way despite the big weight.
After racing a little flat early in her last campaign, the blinkers were applied to Temptacion and that gear change made a huge effect with the daughter of All Too Hard bolting in twice at Ascot in the space of a week, following that with a third in the WA Oaks.
Despite making good ground in the Derby, she just couldn't quite reel in a very talented Western Empire, who'd be Winx odds against this lot under the same conditions and it's worth noting the blinkers weren't on in her two lead-up trials for this return.
IRON JACK HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Belmont Roughie - Race 5 No. 10 Dorado
At big odds in a very open affair, don't be surprised to see this improving gelding run a good race following a midfield finish over this track and trip last Saturday behind Brave Dream, in an event that had a little more depth than this contest.
He was mostly uncompetitive in his first racing preparation and given plenty of time to mature following a ordinary showing in August, 2020, he resumed over the 1200m at Belmont on June 23, finding the line fairly over a trip that's a little too slick.
The son of Toronado was jumping from a Northam Maiden victory last week and after being held-up at a key stage, he got home well, while with a few more favours in transit on that occasion, Dorado would've finished a few lengths closer.
COOL RIDGE HANDICAP Tips (Race 7)
Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Miss Vasari
After comfortably disposing of a Provincial Maiden field via her Pinjarra debut, Miss Vasari looked to have her March 7 attempt at Ascot shot to bits, and although she practically threw that away, there was a big space to third and that winner is city class.
She rounded out that campaign with a runner-up to a handy Iseered Iseered and off the back of two decent winter trials, bolted in on July 21, which resulted in her going around as a $1.80 favourite second-up where she was safely held, but there were excuses.
Held-up and then asked to sprint when left flat-footed, the four-year-old was completely unsuited as opposed to the fresh victory where she was able to build off a slow tempo, so from gate eight in this small field where Parnham can stay out of trouble, she can bounce back.
HORSEPOWER - A NIGHT AT THE RACES HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Belmont Best Bet - Race 9 No. 3 Notorious One
As we mentioned a fortnight back where he saluted as our Best Bet, this gelding isn't exactly a straight forward galloper, however, the biggest reason for that victory was Clint Johnston-Porter back aboard, a hoop that easily brings out the best in this quirky galloper.
It's certainly a different scenario this Saturday in a slightly stronger field, hence why we may get a better price closer to the jump, but as the fit and in-form runner that handles any conditions, the advantage is with Notorious One, given his main threats are early in their preps.
As a big, ungainly type that has always looked your typical miler in the making, the step up to 1400m is in his favour and although there's a few queries with an inside gate here, we'll trust this jockey/horse combination who are aiming to go three from three here.
