BREAST CANCER RESEARCH CENTRE OF WA PLATE Tips (Race 2)
Belmont Value Bet - Race 2 No. 9 Wuhan Warrior
Former Fremantle Dockers gun small forward Hayden Ballantyne prepares this son of Snippetson, a rising three-year-old that has always shown plenty of ability at the trials, debuting in the Listed Supremacy Stakes back in March albeit off no autumn public workouts.
Tipped out following a disappointing result, there's plenty of gear changes now made for Wuhan Warrior ahead of his winter return with the blinkers and tongue-tie being applied, and the shades were on for a dominant trial win at Lark Hill on June 14.
Scorching the turf to prevail by more than eight lengths, he recorded the fastest 950m time for that morning which was on a soft track and with give in the surface here along with now having that key experience under the belt, he could be a big improver at start two.
THE WALKER FAMILY HANDICAP Tips (Race 3)
Belmont Best Bet - Race 3 No. 5 Dunbar
A lightly race Bob Peters-owned three-year-old who was unbeaten from his first two starts last winter, including a victory over subsequent Listed winner Chantorque is this son of Vancouver, who was strong on return via the June 19 meeting
Dunbar didn't quite come up in the spring, but backed up the good May 31 trial with a second fresh to Sunnysilk, sustaining a wide run behind a fit 1000m specialist and now stepping up to the 1200m second-up, he looks much better suited.
While he will likely look to get back and blend in late, there does look to be plenty of early speed in this event and as a Belmont winner on a Soft 7, some cut in the ground will be the least of his worries, providing there's no on-pace bias.
PENINSULA DINING ROOM HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Excellent Dream
The main query is that he hasn't attempted this seven-furlong journey yet, however, off a fighting performance on June 19 over 1200m after being caught three-wide throughout, this is as good a time as any to be tried over this trip.
Comfortably accounting for slightly stronger opposition back in March before a freshen-up, Excellent Dream had excuses despite running good closing splits when returning on June 5 where the intent was to be ridden cold, resuming off a good freshen-up.
As the pick of the on-speed grade that was spotting decent weight to the first, second and fourth placegetters last start, we're looking for Brad Rawiller to take the initiative early on this gelding who has a very good strike rate and should be ready to peak now.
AQUANITA STAKES Tips (Race 8)
Belmont Feature Tip - Race 8 No. 6 What About Moi
This gelding had been unlucky not have won either side an attempt in a handy $70,000 event at Ascot with a narrow miss on debut and was just edged out by a debut Bob Peters runner on December 30, with Pike taking the shortcut on the rail to secure victory.
He managed to get the better of Smashing on that occasion, a first-up winner in the spring and a three-year-old who was competitive in two features over the carnival via he Group Two WA Guineas prior to running fifth in the Listed Lee-Steere Classic.
What About Moi is well up in grade for this Aquanita Stakes tilt following a Northam win under a gun Laqdar Ramoly steer, but I've always been keen for this gelding to get over a trip and there's no standouts in this Listed affair.
CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Belmont Roughie - Race 9 No. 8 Kallaroo
Although he's not quite in the touch of his two and early three-year-old season, this gelding isn't going badly and off all of his performances this campaign, he's seemingly been looking for the mile this entire time.
Getting to the 1600m and now with a good drop in grade, Kallaroo is certainly no slouch when right, defeating Western Empire in the Fairetha Stakes last spring, a galloper that is easily the best three-year-old middle distance/staying runner in Western Australia.
With the ability to handle a soft track and making some decent inroads behind Comfort Me on June 19, a runner that is rated well above anything in this field, he's sneaking under the guard a little at his current quote versus a favourite who is coming off midweek wins.
