FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Eeyore Wayz
Admittedly it was somewhat of a messy race last Saturday although it was hard not to be impressed with the return of this gelding who was strong late, especially after the line in what was a handy sprint race.
Three of his four wins have come at Belmont which were recorded last winter in what was a long second racing preparation and he was competitive at Group level later that campaign.
While there's potential knocks with the map from barrier one, Eeyore Wayz has the ability to sprint sharply off any tempo and certainly respecting the quick back up for this drop in grade early in his campaign.
RACONTEUR STAKES Tips (Race 7)
Belmont Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Graceful Girl
This Bob Peters-owned filly was a little raw early in her first campaign but she improved with racing, recording back-to-back victories in January before being tipped out.
There was early money for first-up, however, she was a notable drifter late ($2.60-$3.50) and despite catching the eye from an impossible position, found the 1100m too sharp on resumption with the extra 100m last week being ideal.
On the seven-day turnaround and staying on the 54kg impost for the William Pike, this does look a little third-up set play from the Williams camp to get some black-type for Graceful Girl, who should relish the step to 1400m.
FURPHY HANDICAP Tips (Race 8)
Belmont Roughie - Race 8 No. 5 Guns Of Navarone
Although he is up in grade on Saturday, this veteran galloper from the Neville Parnham stable has saluted in stronger rating events which was evident last year when defeating the stakes performed Mervyn.
The good freshen-up has worked wonders for Guns Of Navarone, who was labouring earlier in the year but resuming off a little break, saluted on the midweek program at Ascot on May 12 before his May 26 attempt at Belmont.
In a leader dominated affair, the son of War Chant has recorded the fastest last 600m of that 1000m contest and he was dropping back from six-furlongs for that race, so now returning to 1200m, is ticking along very well for a 25/1 chance.
COOL RIDGE HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Belmont Value Bet - Race 9 No. 14 Sheza Chalmer
She was excellent in her first campaign, defeating Testing Love (won her next two) before an even more dominant display where she was the only runner to come from off the speed on November 25 at Bunbury and prevail (smashed the clock for the day too).
While she had to settle for second as a short favourite on December 12, it looked an end of preparation performance and although there was a trial in March, it's worth noting the five-week gap between that hit out and the April 21 return.
In a farcically run affair in that first-up attempt, Sheza Chalmer was never in winning calculations but she bounced back second-up before being set a task last start and from a low draw with 54kg, can give Bright Diamond a scare if Carberry is positive early.
