Ballarat Tips July 4
Global Turf Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)
Ballarat Best Bet - Race 2 No. 3 Brave Carol
The daughter of Brave Smash recorded a couple of solid efforts on turf at this venue via her first two starts, including when fourth on debut.
Brave Carol raced over 1000m when beaten just over four lengths in an eight-runner contest held on a sound surface on that occasion.
While unable to better that fourth-place finish over the same distance on a wet track two weeks later, she did deliver a respectable fifth-of-six with John Allen up on each occasion.
The switch to the synthetic track here brought about improvement last time out, with the three-year-old beaten just over a length into third when contesting an 1100m event.
She raced from the front on that occasion and similar tactics are expected dropping back in distance.
Trainer Andrew Noblet does well at this venue and with further improvement likely, his representative looks capable of breaking through.

Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 The Boss Man
The gelding gained plenty of experience in barrier trials and jump out’s prior to making his debut last month.
The pick of those efforts came in his final jump-out when placing second over 1000m at Geelong in May.
The Boss Man went on to deliver a good debut effort in finishing third, beaten a length over this course and distance two weeks later.
The three-year-old raced on the speed on that occasion, with the form of that contest receiving a boost thanks to a next start win for the runner-up.
He went on to register his second third-place finish at Pakenham on Monday, with The Boss Man delivering a good effort in finishing two-and-a-half-lengths behind the winner.
The son of Puissance De Lune shouldn’t have any issues from barrier seven here, with regular rider Fred Kersley again set to steer.

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Russian Summer
The five-year-old recorded his first win of the year when saluting by just under a length on turf at Bendigo in February.
The gelding took out a 1300m Benchmark 0-58 handicap that day and while he failed to shine on his next three starts, he performed better when fourth at Wodonga in May.
Russian Summer was beaten just under three lengths in finishing fourth in a 1300m Benchmark 0-58 handicap held on a wet surface on that occasion.
The son of Russian Revolution built on that effort when beaten one-and-a-half-lengths into second via a similar race to this over 1200m last time out.
While yet to win over this distance, Joe Bowditch’s mount boasts a strong record at this venue, with five top two finishes from from six starts on the Ballarat Synthetic.
Barrier seven shouldn’t pose any issues here and he looks up value to providing the Mark & Levi Kavanagh stable with a winner.

Ballarat Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Vino Corona
Thomas Carberry’s representative is a previous winner here, having taken out a 1500m maiden in August 2023.
The five-year-old went on to lose out by a narrow margin when psecond in a similar race to this over course and distance later that month.
The mare has been lightly-raced since then, making just five appearances and the best of those was a runner-up on turf when racing second-up last prep.
Vino Corona was beaten just over seven lengths when contesting a 2600m Benchmark 64 handicap that day, however, the shorter distance here is no issue.
Notably, the daughter of Dundeel improved markedly for her first-up effort that prep.
She has made one start this time around, finishing eight lengths back in a 2200m Benchmark 58 at Pakenham last month and a return to Ballarat suits.
