Best Bet:
Race 6 No. 6 Scully
The son of Shooting To Win has been in good form without winning in three starts this prep.
Those outings have seen the four-year-old finish in the first four on each occasion, including when fourth in a metro contest at Sandown two starts back.
Scully raced over 1000m in a Benchmark 70 handicap when beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths on that occasion.
The switch to a synthetic track proved no issue, with the gelding losing out by a narrow margin when runner-up over 1200m at Pakenham subsequently.
The gelding stayed on nicely, having been slowly away on that occasion and firstt two finished over two-and-a-half-lengths clear of the third.
Neil Farley rides for the first time this prep and he is taken to steer the Andrew Noblet-trained gelding to victory.
Next Best:
Race 4 No. 3 Albanian Star
The five-year-old has shown a liking for the synthetic track here in recent starts, including when successful here on June 13.
The daughter of Scissor Kick won by just under half-a-length when contesting a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap on that occasion.
The step up to 1500m didn’t appear to be an issue, with the mare going on to placed third in a six-runner Benchmark 64 handicap here a week ago.
Albanian Star races over the same course and distance here, and jockey Alana Kelly is again set to ride.
Connections reapply the blinkers here which should sharpen the five-year-old up.
With a decent barrier on Tuesday, Albanian Star looks capable of recording the fourth win of her career.
Market Mover:
Race 7 No. 3 I Am Piki
Jockey Dakotah Keane rides this track well and punters have latched onto her mount I Am Piki in the finale.
The three-year-old placed on her first three starts this prep prior to a below par five-length sixth when stepped up to 1200m at Geelong.
The switch to a synthetic track here saw her return to winning ways when taking out an 1100m Benchmark 58 handicap here two weeks ago.
The drop back in distance is no issue and she has been the subject of strong support with Ladbrokes ($4.40-$3.10).
Stats Say:
Tony & Calvin McEvoy’s horses are running well in the main at present and they boast an impressive 40% strike-rate (4/10) when teaming up with jockey Jake Duffy this season.
The McEvoy stable have two runners on the Ballarat card with Duffy set to partner the first of those, Wats Normal in the fifth race of the day.
The gelding performed well on his synthetic track debut when beaten less than a length into fifth over 1400m at Pakenham last month and he looks to hold strong claims here.
