Jumping at $81 the colt trailed home eleventh of twelve having raced from mid-division on a good 4 surface.
The selection was freshened following that effort and he put in a much-improved effort stepped up to 1400m for a Terang maiden just under a month ago.
A change of tactics saw the youngster ridden cold when delivering an eye-catching effort to be beaten just three lengths when placing third in that event.
The pick shaped as if he would appreciate further that day and the extra 100m he is set to tackle here is in his favour.
The runner-up on that occasion Sardonian went on to win at Warrnambool next time and Matt Cumani’s youngster looks capable of following suit here.
Porter Plant BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Dan O’Sullivan’s mare recorded some decent efforts in defeat without threatening to win last prep including when fourth over 1300m at Bendigo at the end of October.
The pick was beaten just over three lengths when contesting a Benchmark 70 handicap that day and she filled the same position dropped to 1200m at Moonee Valley next time.
The daughter of Astern ended that prep with a down the field effort in a Benchmark 78 handicap over this track and trip in December.
The five-year-old gets a significantly easier contest here having returned to action with a solid fifth of six when contesting a metro Benchmark 70 event over 1200m at Sandown last month.
The selection is expected to appreciate the return to provincial racing with the drop to a Benchmark 64 handicap here a further positive.
Jaylah Kennedy again takes the ride and while her mount has placed just once from four starts here previously, she may prove up to surprising some better fancied rivals.
Hygain Winners Choice BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Gin Baba
The Invincible Spirit filly has finished in the first two in all seven starts since resuming with a fifth over 1200m at Yarra Valley at the start of January.
Those efforts include two victories with the first of those seeing her triumph by nearly five lengths in a 1306m maiden at Ararat at the end of March.
The pick raced on a good 4 track that day finishing strongly and she went on to deliver a good second place finish in a six runner Benchmark 64 event at Cranbourne next time.
The filly again raced on a good 4 surface at Cranbourne losing out by half-a-length having jumped from next to the rail.
Trained by Archie Alexander the four-year-old raced over 1300m that day and she travelled well prior to saluting by half-a-length stepped back up to Bendigo subsequently.
The selection boasts an inside barrier here and she looks up to completing a double with Declan Bates booked to ride.

Ballarat Roughie - Race 8 No. 9 Hydrogen Power
The four-year-old recorded the second win of his career when saluting by over a length in a 1600m Benchmark 0-58 handicap at Swan Hill in March.
The pick raced on a sound surface that day and has since gone on to record top four finishes in three of his four subsequent outings.
The most recent of those saw the gelding lose out by two-and-a-half-lengths when coming home fourth in a 1600m Benchmark 64 handicap here two weeks ago.
The selection was slowly away on that occasion but finished strongly in the style of a horse who is expected to appreciate the step up in distance he gets here.
Trained by Nathan Hobson the gelding is reunited with Linda Meech for this event having been partnered by Meech when winning at Swan Hill and placing second at this track in March.
The blinkers worn last time out are absent for this event and he looks value to record a victory in the finale.
