Peter Tobin Funerals Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)
Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 12 Grand Intention
The three-year-old has shown good form in three starts to date registering two third and one fourth place finish.
The pick came home just under two-and-a-half-lengths third when debuting over 1100m at this venue in February.
Racing on a good 4 track the filly recorded a good effort that day and she was beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths in finishing fourth in a 1200m event at Echuca next time.
The daughter of Magna Grecia gets a drop back in distance here having raced from the front prior to being overhauled in the straight when third over the same distance at Donald last time.
While a wide barrier is far from ideal here the filly has shown good early speed in the past and looks up to overcoming that with jockey Blake Shinn an eye-catching booking.
Forecast underfoot conditions are expected to suit Archie Alexander’s representative who can help her trainer improve on his 17.5% strike-rate (7/40) here this season.

Ballarat Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 Professor Pickles
The four-year-old won twice in 2024 registering victories in his first two starts including over this distance in a Class 1 at Wyong just over a year ago.
While unable to score in three subsequent outings he registered some decent efforts most notably when fourth in a metro Benchmark 68 handicap at Warwick Farm last May.
The son of So You Think was spelled following that effort and he placed second in a Flemington jump out prior to resuming over 1454m at Kyneton earlier this month.
The selection raced with his head to one side in the closing stages when placing second in a Benchmark 64 handicap that day and he is expected to have improved for that effort.
The return to 1600m is a positive with the forecast good going and barrier six both further positives for Teo Nugent’s mount.
The gelding looks the main pace angle in this field and having shown good early speed in the past he can get loose on the front end to record the third win of his career.
Hygain Winners Choice Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Ballarat Favourite - Race 6 No. 7 Swifties
The Capitalist filly made the perfect start to her career when debuting with a win over 1000m at Bendigo in early October.
Racing on a 4 track the filly came home five-and-a-half-lengths ahead of her rivals having kicked well clear at the 200m marker.
While unable to score in two subsequent outings that prep it’s notable that the second of those efforts saw her jump at $41 for the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Of Australia Stakes at Caulfield.
The selection was beaten over nine-and-a-half-lengths when racing on a sound surface in that 1200m event and she was spelled following that effort.
Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr’s representative met trouble in running when resuming with a promising fourth in a 1000m Benchmark 64 handicap at Mornington earlier this month.
The three-year-old remains open to improvement on just her fifth career start and jumping from an inside alley she is taken to record the second win of her career.

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 British Poet
Reece Goodwin’s gelding broke through for his first victory when getting home by a narrow margin in a 1010m maiden at Sale in February.
The four-year-old raced on a wet track that day and having failed to shine at Pakenham next time he returned to winning ways at Cranbourne last month.
The selection came home nearly one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his six rivals when taking out a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap at Cranbourne.
The son of Iffraaj returned to a wet track for that Cranbourne success with the going rated a soft 6 on that occasion.
While the pick failed to shine over 1300m in a Restricted 64 handicap back at Cranbourne earlier this month he can be forgiven that effort having suffered from cardiac arrhythmia that day.
Hannah Edgley, on board for his most recent victory returns to the saddle here with the pair looking value to overcome a wide barrier here.
