Best Bet:
Race 2 No. 3 Quagmire
This Simon Miller-trained gelding looks a progressive middle-distance/staying type and off two solid efforts to start his career, he's well placed out to 1600m here.
From a wide barrier over 1300m, Quagmire ridden cold via his Belmont debut and he was doing his best work late (fastest last 800m/600m and 400m of the race).
The son of Long Leaf then found Precious God (placed last Saturday) too brilliant at seven furlongs, but he still beat home two race winners in his last Ascot appearance.
Not only does he find an easier task in maiden company, but the three-year-old also carries 2.5kg less from his January 15 outing and Clint Johnston-Porter stays aboard.
Value Bet:
Race 5 No. 2 Like No Other
He was hit-or-miss in 10 starts over his three-year-old season, where Like No Other recorded two victories, but he was well beaten in three tries after his August triumph.
The gelding has recorded two competitive summer showings and he ran the second-fastest closing sectionals of an Ascot Class 3 when opening his prep on January 8.
Like No Other remained at 1200m second-up and while he was able to settle closer in his latest assignment, he was forced to cover ground throughout that event.
He stuck on quite well considering, with the son of Ducimus finishing within two lengths of the winner despite a tough run and he draws kinder for a weaker event third-up.
Market Mover:
There's two first starters contesting the opener at Ascot and they've both been backed in the early market with Ladbrokes
Prince ($19.00-$12.00) and Conversation Point ($8.50-$5.00) have been the notable firmers, although Niccimota ($2.90) is still an outright favourite.
Stats Say:
With 58 winners at a strike-rate of 20.49% (last 12 months), Chris Parnham is the leading jockey at Ascot.
After the scratching of Diamond Dancer in the last, he has just two engagements on Thursday's meeting (Races 1 and 2).
