He caught the eye in a decent Northam maiden on debut last August before an even effort at start two and the gelding was then spelled after a plain Belmont run in September.

Being by Cable Bay and out of a Sharmadal mare, Cable Rock is bred to get over more ground than the sprint trips that he's been contesting, so 1400m third-up should suit.

Following a plain return, the three-year-old was terrific last start, where he kept surging late for second despite racing three-wide without cover and that winner looks to have a future.

Ascot Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Snip's Rock

This mare has been ticking over well all campaign and now stepping 1600m with four runs under her belt, Snip's Rock is well placed to bring up win number three on Wednesday.

She stayed at 1400m a run too long despite finding the line in all three seven furlong attempts and then over 1500m last time, the five-year-old was only a stride off saluting.

Adding further merit to her latest performance was that she made ground against the pattern of that Pinjarra event, as first, third and fourth all settled in the first few pairs.

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Westcoast Express

We'll get a gauge on the form lines through Cable Rock in the opener, with Westcoat Express having defeated that galloper on March 20 and this gelding does have upside.

Despite showing tactical speed in his lead-up work, the Chris & Michael Gangemi-trained galloper was ridden cold in that Belmont debut, having drawn wide in that maiden.

Although the runner-up did cover ground, he was still exposed early in the run home and had to tough it out vs some more experienced rivals, while he can improve off that run.

National Pump And Energy Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ascot Roughie - Race 7 No. 1 Henry Has Spoken

While it took her 16 starts to breakthrough, Henry Has Spoken did take out a Bunbury maiden with ease in that November victory and she beat a progressive Flash Paddy in the process.

The four-year-old was spelled after that triumph and aside from a heavy defeat when tried over a staying journey last spring, her form around 1400m-1800m trips has been okay.

Keeping her to that distance range will be the key and going straight to seven furlongs fresh off a nice trial in a handy Lark Hill heat last week, she has each-way claims in an open race.
