Ascot will run a nine race program on May 8 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
MORLEY GROWERS MARKET HANDICAP Tips (Race 1)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 1 No. 3 Beret
This mare easily could've prevailed in another one or two races this campaign, including last week, but again has been the victim of a wide barrier, rattling home from the rear as the eventual runner-up.
She was five weeks between runs and staying at 1800m there, so is certainly open top improvement and while this is technically a harder race, if you look outside the out of form topweight, they've all been competing in the same grade prior to this anyway.
With gun apprentice Laqdar Romely remaining in the saddle, Beret drops from 57kg to 52kg this Saturday and deserving a fourth career victory, she gets her chance to achieve that in the opener from Ascot.
AMELIA PARK HANDICAP Tips (Race 4)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Sheza Chalmer
She was excellent in her first campaign, defeating Testing Love (won her next two) at start two before an even more dominant display on a November 25 card where she was the only runner to come from off the speed at Bunbury and prevail (smashed the clock for the day too).
While she had to settle for second as a short favourite on December 12, it looked an end of preparation performance and although she trialled well in March, it's worth noting the five week gap between that hit out and the April 21 return.
In a farcically run affair in that first-up attempt, she was never in winning calculations when settling back but dropping from 58.5kg to 54.5kg and ideally with a more positive Patrick Carbery second-up, Sheza Chalmer can bounce back.
EVENTS AT ASCOT HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Drinkwhatyoulike
With a massive 4kg swing in the weights from their April 24 clash at Ascot, this mare can turn the tables on Panzdown with some more forward tactics and stripping fitter now third-up from a spell (has no second-up form).
After holding on to score first-up down the Pinjarra straight, Drinkwhatyoulike was forced to take a sit via that latest attempt whereas the winner got somewhat of a lucky passage through on the inside.
Expected to return her more customary leading role this Saturday, this honest daughter of Denman should get every chance to build on her already impressive 1000m record (all four career wins have come over this trip).
CROWN PERTH HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Megazone
While he was very competitive in four runs over his last campaign, now dropping back to 66+ level gives this gelding a realistic chance of winning first-up on Saturday in what isn't a strong race.
Megazone really only a needs a repeat his last fresh attempt where he rattled off a race fastest last 600m of 33.84, finishing second to Carocapo who had every favour up front in that slowly run affair and the subsequent form from that winner has been strong.
Winning his next start at 78+ level before a string of good efforts at Stakes level, Carocapo is a handy sprinter that would be doing a number on this line-up over 1200m and now hopefully kept to the sprint trips, this five-year-old can progress a little further this time in.
