Ascot will run a nine race program on April 10 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
PEPSI MAX HANDICAP Tips (Race 2)
Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Notorious One
A half-brother to Group Three winner She's Clean, Notorious One took a long time to hit the race track but created an immediate impression, bolting in via a Belmont Maiden before stepping straight to Class 3 level to go back-to-back, getting the job done despite not looking as comfortable on a soft track.
Now in his second racing preparation, just about everything went wrong for this lightly raced five-year-old via his March 27 return, where he dwelt at the start then lost ground before racing keenly, and was held-up for most of the home straight.
While talented, he clearly has his quirks so the second time around now for strong senior rider Brad Parnham, that can only be a positive and as a winner over the Ascot Mile only three starts back, is worth another chance here.
AMELIA PARK HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 5 No. 7 Bogart
A son of Redoute's Choice and out of the dam Avante, a Group Three winning sprinter, you won't see too many more handsome types getting around than the big and long striding Bogart, who arrives here fourth-up, with a nice weight swing on That's Funny Az from their last clash.
Unfortunately for this four-year-old, his good looks haven't always transferred to race day success where after looking a genuine Stakes class runner over his two and three-year-old campaigns, just never went on with it last spring even when finding some rather thin assignments.
There is a chance that the gelding may have turned the corner, however, as he beat an in-form What About Moses who in turn defeated Miss Marietta, who has won her last three outings and stepping straight from 1200m to 1600m on March 20, he should only strip fitter here.
SOLO ZERO HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Some Sort
This gelding was putting together a good record as an early three-year-old, recording three wins over August and September in 2019 before returning in February, where he was tipped out after two poor performances.
Given plenty time following those defeats, Some Sort had just the one start last spring, winning a handy sprint on Kalgoorlie Cup Day and looks to have held that form, resuming on March 27 where he just peaked on the run 50m out, but was still stuck on as the pick of the on-paced runners.
Considering the betting drift ($6.50-$10.00) it was a good indicator that he needed that run and now the blinkers go on for the first time, a gear change that was in effect via a Pinjarra trial on March 8, where he safely accounted for stable mate Money Matters, a Listed winner last preparation.
FURPHY HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Ascot Each-Way Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Position Of Power
Although he hasn't bounced back this preparation after being a model of consistency 20 or so starts, he wasn't disgraced in a much stronger event last Saturday, coming all the way back from a Ratings 78+ to a 66+ in the last from Ascot on April 10.
We only need to go back to November to see Position Of Power defeating Dig Deep, who is rated well and truly above anything in this field and is a galloper that found form following that, winning another three races including a Listed affair on March 20 before a third in the Old Comrade Stakes last week.
The five-year-old was only narrowly denied last August by the Stakes class Serenity Bay, which was his last attempt on the seven-day turnaround and although not at his best currently, could easily bounce back in a race of this strength where he's a double figure price.
