*In The Boat has been scratched from Race 1 at Ascot
TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP Tips (Race 2)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Mexi Cola
He was luckless in a September return when not getting off heels until the final furlong but irrespective, the big and somewhat extravagant action of this five-year-old just doesn't lend itself to handling wet tracks, which most of his career flops have come on.
The long striding son of Epaulette was then sent for little freshen-up and bounced straight back with a win at Northam on December 3 prior to a step up in grade on Boxing Day, where although he did look plain to the eye in the run home, it wasn't run to suit, with nothing from off the speed coming into it at all.
For what is an easier assignment, he doesn't appear to be all that bad in at weights with just a 2kg increase as one of the few runners in this line-up coming down in grade and he did carry 60kg over 2000m to victory last preparation when defeating Bonneville Black, a mare that completed a winning hat-trick in town last winter/early spring.
BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP Tips (Race 5)
Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Iseered Iseered
*Iseered Iseered has been scratched from Race 5 at Ascot.
MRS MAC'S HANDICAP Tips (Race 7)
Ascot Roughie - Race 7 No. 13 Miss Nobelle
While the hot favourite Prized Miss comes out of a decent Maiden and looks the most progressive of these runners, she is short at an odds-on quote, with a very good ride just getting her there on debut and that opens the door for a few of her rivals in the last from Ascot at each-way quotes.
At better than 20/1 in the early markets, Miss Nobelle is a runner in that category and is a mare who opened her preparation with an eye-catching effort at Northam before a somewhat disappointing run second-up, but bounced back on December 28 at Pinjarra when again finding the line well in a performance which suggested the 1400m now would be ideal.
It is worth noting that she was well backed late in that last outing ($7.50-$5.50) and with a good fitness base behind her, this doesn't appear to be any harder with the exception of Prized Miss and at big odds, she only needs to improve a shade to be a genuine top three/four chance here.
