Ascot will run a nine race program on January 16 and our free betting tips along with our preview is available below.
PEOPLESTART HANDICAP Tips (Race 3)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 3 No. 8 Last Of The Line
The Stephen Miller stable used the seven-day turnaround last campaign which resulted in a victory for this talented gelding and the same pattern is being attempted again on Saturday, following a third-placed finish on return where he was a notable big drifter in the betting late ($3.80-$9.00).
A full brother to a Listed winning sprinter in Black Felix, Last Of The Line settled at the rear in that first-up attempt and although was entitled to run on given the fast early speed that was set, the son of Blackfriars had too much ground to make up from that impossible position at the back of the field.
He draws much kinder this time around in barrier two, which allows jockey Ryan Hill to camp on Majinka's back, who does look the likely leader and with from that more economical run, this four-year-old can bounce back in the third from Ascot.
AMELIA PARK HANDICAP Tips (Race 4)
Ascot Each-Way Bet - Race 4 No. 1 The Fugazi
After winning two of his last three attempts over the winter of 2019, this galloper from the Chris & Michael Gangemi yard had a decent setback when off the scene for more than a year prior to his October 2020 resumption which resulted in a fourth-place finish over the Ascot 1400m.
By Sebring and of a three-quarter sister to the 2017 Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time, The Fugazi has been very competitive throughout this return preparation, albeit hasn't won, but after two efforts at a mile, he's hard fit now coming back to the seven furlongs, which is a more suitable trip.
It did take a good ride on a very talented Ration Aly to roll him on January 2, which is certainly a good enough reference for this contest and as runner-up, still managed to hold just under a one length margin on the next runner home there and the chasing pack never looked like getting past him.
CROWN SPORTS BAR HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Lonsdale Lady
Following an all the way victory in Listed 1000 Guineas at Ascot last year, this daughter of Maschino has been frustrating for punters as she has really mixed her form but after competiting in Stakes grade this entire preparation, this is a nice step back in grade.
After an excellent chasing effort third-up in the Listed Jungle Mist Classic, she put in a couple of average runs prior to her Group Three La Trice Classic tilt on January 2 where outside the first two home, she was about the run of the race when threading a passage through late and rattling home.
Being a half-sister to a Belmont Oaks and Belmont Classic winner in Rosmartini, that gives us some confidence that she can run out this staying trip and if the real Lonsdale Lady turns up, she's the best horse in this field and the price is at least fair to find out.
UAYCLEAN HANDICAP Tips (Race 9)
Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 9 Ration Aly
Ration Aly is now cemented at the top of the bets.com.au Hall Of Fame ladder where after landing a big betting move first-up last campaign then continuing on further to score a winning hat-trick before a little spell, she got the chocolates in fine style when put on top via the January 2 card.
This four-year-old was clearly the class runner in that last field she faced and although perhaps heading back to the inside was a little theatrical from jockey Paul Harvey, it was a move that paid off where she cleared out late over the mile to score easily in a nice return to winning form.
Naughty By Nature is the favourite off her chasing effort behind Dance Music, but we can draw a line through these two mares as they finished next to each other in the Jungle Dawn Classic on December 5, with Ration Aly, who was $10 that day versus the $26 quote of Naughty By Nature, encountering more traffic in the run home and there's a 1kg weight swing in her favour here.
