Feature Bet:
Race 7 No. 2 Cat Noir
Jamie Edwards’ mare is a winner this prep having delivered a victory by over a length when contesting a 1733m Benchmark 64 handicap at Geelong in January.
The four-year-old raced on a good 3 track that day and has encountered sound surfaces in finishing fifth in both subsequent starts.
The most recent of those saw her beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a Heat 2 in this series at Ballarat last month.
The daughter of Merchant Navy proved that she can be competitive in these races that day and while she looked an awkward ride at times she has Zac Spain, on board at Geelong back for this event.
A wide barrier isn’t ideal however the filly is fairly versatile tactics wise and wearing blinkers for the first time in over a year she is taken to record her second win on soft ground.
Best Bet:
Race 3 No. 12 Rose Diamond
The filly has demonstrated plenty of ability in her five starts to date including when placing second twice over this distance at Cranbourne.
The most recent of those efforts saw her beaten less than a length having started awkwardly when racing on a good 4 surface in January.
The third home that day has won since with the daughter of Fastnet Rock going on to finish fourth when racing over the same distance at Seymour last month.
The selection gets a wet track for just the second time here having debuted with a third over 1300m on a soft 5 surface at Bendigo in November.
Jumping from next to the rail is a positive in this event and she looks capable of breaking through for the Ben, JD & Will Hayes team.
Market Mover:
Mitchell Freedman’s Heavenly Way has placed second in two of her three starts to date and Neds punters have latched on to the daughter of Deep Field in the second.
The three-year-old lost out by two lengths when runner-up over 1200m at Terang last time and she's been backed to go one better ($4.80-$3.10).
Stats Say:
Trainer Symon Wilde does well at this venue with the handler boasting a 19% strike-rate (31/160) with his runners here.
Wilde is set saddle three runners on the card with Dean Yendall due to partner debutant Unlock The Puzzle (race 1) and Darts Daly (race 4) with John Allen booked for last start winner Amizetta in the fifth.
