Group One Railway Stakes Tip - Is Samizdat the one to beat?

A typically competitive field has been assembled for the 2019 running of the Group One Railway Stakes for this Saturday, November 23.

As expected, there's value throughout this line-up with The Velvet King the current $6.50 favourite at Ladbrokes.

What are the leading chances this year?

2019 Railway Stakes Odds

The Velvet King$6.50
Tellem Were Comin$7.00
Regal Power$8.00
Best Of Days$9.00
Achernar Star$10.00

Odds are provided by Ladbrokes and are correct as of 20/11/19 - 1.00pm.

Railway Stakes Best Bet - Samizdat

This four-year-old qualified for the 2019 Railway Stakes via a soft last start victory on November 2.

He's got back and run on all of this preparation so far where the decision to throw the blinkers on before that race was a big success.

Is unproven at a mile and perhaps a firmer track is also a query, but he wasn't stopping at seven furlongs and can perhaps settle a little closer as he finally draws a good barrier here in three.

Samizdat fits that good Railway Stakes profile of a lightly raced, four or five-year-old down in the weights and the 2018 winner Galaxy Star also came through the Asian Beau Stakes.

Railway Stakes Next Best Bet - The Velvet King

He's arguably the most honest galloper participating in this field is this son of Universal Ruler that is prepared by the Darren Mcaulife stable.

Is another four-year-old with a low weight which is a big tick and unlike many of the others in this race, he makes his own luck on-speed.

His performance when chasing via is his lead-up effort on November 9 was better to my eye than the first two home there in Star Exhibit and Gatting who simply had softer runs in that event.

The Velvet King has a big weight swing on both of them horses here and is aiming to become the first horse since Belle Bizarre in 2006 to complete the Lee-Steere/Railway double.

Railway Stakes Value Bet - Variation

A very consistent gelding that's had a spaced out campaign of three runs, the last of which was at Caulfield on October 19.

Made ground as runner-up behind the useful Streets Of Avalon there and didn't exactly beat home a field of slouches either

His form at Ascot overall is terrific where the only time he's finished outside the top three from ten attempts was in the 2017 Railway Stakes as fourth and was beaten only three quarters of a length.

Can give cheek at big odds and looks the value presently for the each way or exotic players.
