Memsie Stakes Preview, Predictions & Best Bet

Group One racing is back on in Melbourne as Caulfield hosts the Memsie Stakes.

This year looks to be an incredibly even affair after Mystic Journey decided to bypass the event.

We think it's going to come down to a pair of Ciaron Maher runners and an enigmatic runner who's capable of a massive upset.

Memsie Stakes Best Bet

Cliff's Edge is not only the value of the race, he's my best bet.

Coming into the Memsie Stakes following a spirited second behind Mystic Journey in the PB Lawrence Stakes, Cliff's Edge has race fitness on his side and punters should be confident a strong run is in the offing.

The five-year-old has won third-up previously and has finished inside the placings on his last two runs at the track.

Back in Cliff's Edge to take out Melbourne's first major rece.

Memsie Stakes Best Each Way Chance

Cliff's Edge's Ciaron Maher stablemate Humidor comes into this race first-up, but on the back of a number of quality trials.

A winner of this race last year, Humidor is making his stable debut on the weekend and Maher is bullish about his chances. While his record first-up isn't flash, Maher has kept the gelding up to task with a pair of trials and his Group quality cannot be denied.

Humidor is over the odds heading into the 2019 Memsie Stakes.

Memsie Stakes Best Roughie

No, it isn't a typo - we're actually prepared to make So Si Bon our best roughie of the 2019 Memsie Stakes.

The enigma of the Australian racing scene, the six-year-old returned with a genuine bang on August 10, taking out the Group Three Aurie's Star in remarkable fashion.

The gelding returns to Caulfield which has been a happy hunting ground too, placing in two of his last three runs at listed level.

After the Aurie's Star win anything is possible, so don't be surprised to see So Si Bon run another blinder in this weekend's Memsie Stakes.

Verdict

We think it's going to be Ciaron Maher's Memsie come Saturday afternoon.

Cliff's Edge was only toppled by the supreme talent of Mystic Journey in the PB Lawrence. A run up to that standard will see him take this event out.

Humidor resumes after two solid trials and while he has never won first-up, his class cannot be denied.

We also think it's worth having a little something on So Si Bon. After his Aurie's Star win, who are we to doubt him.
