After a comfortable victory recorded in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes on December 23, Storm Boy firmed into outright favouritism for this juvenile feature.
Class often comes to the fore in this juvenile feature and in an edition that appears light on for depth, the son of Justify is clearly the one to beat in the 2024 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
2024 Magic Millions 2YO Classic Next Best Bet - Highness
Highness and Spywire clashed in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 13, and Highness got the better of that duel when reeling in a tiring Spywire,
While Spywire has bounced back from that, I couldn't back the Maher & Eustace colt to turn the tables on Highness, especially with the Freedman runner being a similar price.
Also, the son of Snitzel looks favoured getting out to 1200m on a bigger circuit and he has been ticking over nicely since that December 13 victory (won a December 29 trial).
A very well-bred colt, being out of a half-sister to five-time Group 1 winner Dissident, Highness has the tactical speed to use barrier four and a soft track shouldn't worry him.
2024 Magic Millions 2YO Classic Value Bet - Jenni's Meadow
As mentioned earlier, I'm not convinced that there's much depth in the 2024 Magic Millions 2YO Classic field and this Victorian debut winner still has plenty of upside.
Jenni's Meadow had worked well ahead of her Moonee Valley assignment on December 30, however, I felt she was always going to improve off whatever she delivered there.
The Hayes-trained filly sustained a strong run from off the speed and the most impressive part of that victory was her fight late when denying a runner-up who did no work.
The main query is whether six furlongs is too sharp at this level, as she should get over more ground in time, but there's natural improvement to come here at start two.
