Kensington Blackbook Runners - Saturday, January 4 2020

A competitive nine race card was run on the Kensington circuit at Royal Randwick on Saturday where Christian Reith and Rachel King took out the riding honors for the program with a winning double each.

We've highlighted three runners below from the entire card.

Kensington Race 3 - Arousal

With a better barrier, this Mark Newnham-trained filly would've arguably won.

After settling at the rear from gate ten and making a long and sustained run that resulted in a 34.66 last 600m (safely the fastest of the race and the other 1300m event run in Race 5), the journey home just took it's toll late.

By Snitzel out of the dam Intimate Moment (group winner at 1900m), she bolted into score at start number two leading into this and may have the scope to get over further in time.

In a three-year old benchmark event that looked to have some nice depth and despite still being in her first racing campaign, she'll be popular next time out if they persevere.

Likely Target: There's a BM72 at Rosehill on Saturday, January 18 over 1300m that fits into the program.

Kensington Race 3 - Thanks To You

A gelding from the Jean Dubois stable that didn't have a great deal of luck.

Following an impressive debut win at Kembla Grange when scoring by three lengths, he was on the back-foot early here after missing the start and being against the pattern with the leader Discharged dictating affairs.

He lost ground when steadied of heels at the 300m and despite being out of winning calculations from there, his ability to stick to the task and pick up again in the last 100m was admirable.

Perhaps looking for a little further now and having definite excuses here, Thanks To You has plenty of improvement to come whether it be now or next campaign.

Likely Target: Plenty of options around and I suspect they go to seven furlongs at least next start.

Kensington Race 9 - Patriot

This five-year-old isn't far away from career win number seven.

Prior to this third-up attempt, he's worked home well second-up following a fresh effort where he was in the worst part of a soft track and spotting weight to the first few home.

Has a racing pattern where he needs more than enough to go his way but now with two runs at five furlongs, he is crying out for a little further now and the fastest last 200m of this event further supports that.

Was very consistent last time in with three wins and three placings and now, does look due.

Likely Target: Do they go back to country level? Rating is low enough to find something softer in town.
