Japan Cup 2019 Racing Tips - Will Punters Be Smiling This Sunday?

The Japan Cup is one of the country's most famous races and this year's edition promises to be a wide-open affair.

After connections of reigning champion Almond Eye decided to bypass this race in order to head to Hong Kong, there's no clear stand out in the event.

We've taken a closer look at the Grade One feature to deliver our Japan Cup racing tips ahead of Sunday's running.

Japan Cup 2019 Odds

You Can Smile$4.20
Rey De Oro$5
Suave Richard$7
Curren Bouquetdor$10
Cheval Grand$12
Look Twice$12

Odds are provided by Ladbrokes and are correct as of 19/11/19 - 3pm AEDT.

Japan Cup Best Bet - You Can Smile @ $4.20

The form leading into the Japan Cup looks sharp for the four-year-old You Can Smile.

Running a smart fourth in the Tenno Sho Autumn back on October 27, the four-year-old looks primed for a peak performance in Sunday's feature. Any form behind Almond Eye is sound but the added bonus of his two career graded victories have come from turning left handed is an a big tick in his favour.

With Almond Eye out of the race You Can Smile is our Japan Cup best bet of 2019.

Japan Cup Best Value Bet - Cheval Grand @ $15

The name Cheval Grand will be familiar to Australian punters given our own Hugh Bowman piloted the horse to a victory in this race two years ago.

The old campaigner comes into this event after spending the majority of 2019 in the UK and Dubai, and while he managed to finish second in the Grade One Dubai Sheema Classic, the two subsequent runs at the top level in the UK were disappointing.

Cheval Grand has done it before at G1 level at Tokyo and is good enough to take this race out. We're making him our Japan Cup best value bet on Sunday.
