ipswich tips for 24.06.2020
Eight races feature on the Wednesday Ipswich card. (ALLSPORT)

Ipswich will host an eight race card again on Wednesday where the track will likely improve to be around the Soft 5 or Soft 6 range.

The rail moves out to 5.5m position for the entire circuit after racing at 2.5m last week where winners tended to come from the first half of the field.

SIRROMET QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 3 Knight Mariner

The Baylee Nothdurft and Tony Gollan combination has been absolutely airborne this season and there is no reason as to why it can't continue early in the day with Knight Mariner.

Gelded before this preparation, Knight Mariner was a trial star before nailing Rebel Salute on the line first-up, with Rebel Salute franking the form here last week with a strong victory.

The Tavistock three-year-old will love the step up in distance to the 1690m second-up and has plenty of upside needed to handle this step-up in class.

From barrier five, Nothdurft should settle handy behind the speed and with a great turn of foot, looks primed to continue his great form.

SCHWEPPES Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Favourite - Race 3 No. 7 Playthefield

Arguably the best maiden in Queensland, Playthefield has strong formlines including his placing in the 2020 Magic Millions Maiden behind Hulk, He'll Haunt Us and Spaceboy.

It was a fair return first-up over the 1110m at Doomben where he travelled well before his run came to an end 100m from home in a leader dominated race.

Second-up, the Stuart Kendrick trained three-year-old will have the blinkers applied for the first time which should be the equipment required to give the son of Sepoy the killer punch required.

Although he has gained a reputation as a non-winner, Jake Bayliss will settle a couple of pairs back just off the fence and will be strong at the finish to finally breakthrough today.

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Socialising

Another short-priced favourite for Gollan and Nothdurft is this former Victorian who is searching for a hat-trick of victories since arriving in Queensland.

Unbeaten in both runs in Queensland since joining the Gollan stable, the four-year-old daughter of Bel Esprit easily accounted for Yeahnah last start at Doomben who has since split talented pair Sofie's Gold Class and Hold The Line.

Settling two pairs back in her last start win at Doomben, Nothdurft had a lapful of horse at the turn before powering away to a comfortable victory and looks to peak here third-up.

Once again drawn well in barrier six, Nothdurft should get another similar run in transit behind the speed and will be hard to hold out in search of a third win this preparation as the best bet at Ipswich.

BENDIGO BANK BOOVAL BRANCH Fillies and Mares Class 3 Handicap (Race 8)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Take Tea

In the last race on the card, Les Kelly's talented three-year-old filly Take Tea looks primed to breakthrough for her first win in nearly a year dropping back in grade.

In a terrific return first-up behind the consistent I've Gotta Nel at the Gold Coast, Michael Cahill presented Take Tea at the turn producing a strong run before fitness gave out late on the heavy track.

Although disappointing last-start when finishing eighth at Eagle Farm beaten four lengths, she was found to be lame post-race so it's worth forgiving that.

Returning to Ipswich for the first time since she last tasted victory in October 2019, Justin Huxtable will settle in a great position behind the speed from barrier five on Take Tea who finds a very winnable race.
