This feature often has horses who have competed in the Melbourne Cup back-up, or gallopers who have been competing in some of the lower-grade WFA races across the spring.
At $4.60 with TopSport, Muramasa leads a competitive market for the 2023 Zipping Classic.
2023 Zipping Classic Tips
2023 Zipping Classic Best Bet - Muramasa
He's unbeaten from three starts since a throat and gelding operation, with the Busuttin & Young-trained galloper ticking another box in the Queen Elizabeth last start when stretching out to 2600m.
While this is another challenge at the WFA level, Muramasa is a progressive galloper, being a four-year-old in only his third prep and he's fourth-up in the Zipping Classic, so he can at least hold hls form.
This tactically versatile galloper is ideally drawn in gate four, as jockey Daniel Moor can have the likes of Deny Knowledge and Serpentine within his sights, with that pair likely setting the speed.
His spring campaign has been managed very well, with the three-week between run pattern working perfectly and off a similar set-up on Saturday, Muramasa can make it four on the trot here.
This Team Snowden import isn't exactly the easiest horse to catch, however, he's the proven class runner of the field, having won two Group 1 WFA affairs in Australia and both were decent affairs.
Huetor beat the likes of Zaaki (twice), Duais, Atishu and Kovalica in those Doomben Cup triumphs, so he's certainly capable enough here and he does come out of a Group 1 affair third-up.
The seven-year-old split Prowess and Montefilia via that Champions Stakes and while his sole 2400m win cam more than three years ago, he was looking for more ground off that most recent effort.
While this is an afterthought for many who are deeper into their work/already contested grand finals, Huetor is only fourth-up in the Zipping Classic, so he could be the one peaking for this.
2023 Zipping Classic Value Bet - Shock 'Em Ova
This is a much tougher assignment now taking on more seasoned rivals at WFA level, however, Shock 'Em Ova is one of the few in this with an unknown ceiling and he is looking for this distance.
After recording back-to-back wins, he handled the rise from BM78 level well in the Rosehill Gold Cup, where the gelding caught the eye for third and the runner-up from that has since franked the form.
That November 4 performance was only start nine overall for the son of Shocking and as is often the case with these lightly raced types, they can often bounce strongly from a first interstate trip.
Shock 'Em Ova retains the services of gun senior hoop Craig Williams and if he can stretch his brilliance out to 2400m, then he's the X-factor in the race, as most of his rivals are one-dimensional.
