2023 Run To The Rose Tips

2023 Run To The Rose Best Bet - Libertad

This Annabel Neasham-trained colt remained unbeaten at start three with a return triumph in the San Domenico on August 26, which made it a pair of Group 3 wins for the three-year-old.

Libertad's two winter trials indicated that he'd need the run fresh and jockey Chad Schofield echoed those thoughts a fortnight ago after the first-up win, which is an encouraging sign going forward.

It was a lovely ride by Schofield, who overcame barrier 10 in the San Domenico by working early to grab a one-out-one-back trailing position and he now has gate three at his disposal.

While this is the first time against some of the A graders of this crop, there wasn't a sprinting standout among the two-year-olds last season and to date, Libertad has been bombproof.

2023 Run To The Rose Next Best Bet - Don Corleone

Although his peak performance came at start three when unlucky as runner-up in the Blue Diamond, Don Corleone remained competitive in three subsequent Sydney performances.

His Group 1 Sires' second behind Militarize suggested he could run 1400m and while he's likely geared towards a Golden Rose peak, the Snowden colt has been versatile in regards to distance.

A galloper who never set the world on fire via his early trials, Don Corleone has worked stronger ahead of this campaign, having won his latest heat at Rosehill when the blinkers were on.

As already mentioned, there are no standout sprinters among this current three-year-old crop as it stands and with the ability to handle all surfaces, he has to be right in this first-up.

2023 Run To The Rose Value Bet - General Salute

We labelled this Ryan & Alexiou colt as our value bet of the San Domenico and given the first three home there all had softer runs, he was just about the one to follow from that race.

Although the step to 1200m is a positive, gate 10 does make things tricky for Kerrin McEvoy and this three-year-old gave the impression in that resumption that 1400m would be his trip.

General Salute is still doing it on raw ability, with the son of Russian Revolution first catching eye for third back in January, where he made inroads against the bias despite racing greenly.

A soft barrier would've been ideal over the six furlongs, albeit for a colt that should continue to improve with racing, he's a decent price going off that San Domenico performance.
