Worth $400,000, this is the traditional three-year-old lead-up for the Randwick Guineas, with runners then either going on a staying path via the Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby, or they take on the older horses via sprinting/mile features deeper in the autumn.

At $1.75 via TopSport, Anamoe heads the betting for the 2022 Hobartville Stakes.

2022 Hobartville Stakes Tips

No doubting that Anamoe has to go on top as the most likely winning chance in the Hobartville Stakes, especially now at 1400m, but the Rosehill track does frighten me to go chips-in on the short fav.

As has been evident via his three attempts on this circuit, the classy Godolphin colt has fallen short on leaders, or more specifically; rails-bias tracks, making it harder to circle a field.

Converge is likely another improver to 1400m, but does the wide gate force them to ride him a little close? As we've seen when he came on last winter, this gelding looked much more effective with a sit and bunny to chase.

Stablemate Silent Impact could well be close to peaking here and aside with him being a live each-way hope (albeit the price has been taken), we've detailed some of the value chances below.

2022 Hobartville Stakes Value Bet - Hilal

William Pike and Team Hawkes combine in another feature, this time with Hilal, who rounded his spring with wins in the Stan Fox and Bondi Stakes after a slow start to the prep.

As the Sires' Produce result from last autumn reflects, he can't beat Anamoe if all things are equal, but the best horse often doesn't salute at Rosehill and Hilal has gate one.

The return effort in a leader dominated Eskimo Prince was strong and with the early speed drawn out, 'The Wizard' simply has to use the inside alley and land just off them early.

2022 Hobartville Stakes Roughie - Maurice's Medad

After dropping to the provincials to record a maiden kill as a two-year-old, Maurice's Medad was fancied by many to roll Converge in the Fernhill Stakes, where he finished second.

Spelled after sixtth in the Group One Champagne Stakes, he never came up in the early spring, so the decision was made to geld the Bjorn Baker runner ahead of this campaign.

This three-year-old has been a little sluggish early in his trials and return run, but is balancing up late in his work, so the 1400m suits and he can push forward from gate five.

Verdict

Anamoe is clearly the one to beat, but happy to wait closer to the jump to gauge him, rather than dive in now at $1.75.

Hilal and Maurice's Medad both draw well and represent the early each-way value.
