2022 Apollo Stakes Best Bet - Colette
The 2021 Apollo Stakes winner bolted in with last year's edition, cashing in off the perfect run in transit, with Verry Elleegant left with far too much to do over 1400m.
Interestingly enough, Colette hasn't ventured past 2000m since winning the Australian Oaks two years ago, but has proven to be every bit as effective over shorter trips.
The Godolphin mare showed her true class last spring, where after a small setback derailed a Caulfield Cup tilt, she won two in a row, including the Group One Empire Rose.
While she never sets the world on fire at the trials, her work through the line on January 24 was strong and from gate four, there isn't much to fault at an each-way price.

With bigger fish to fry this year, including the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, it's understandable that the champion won't be fully wound up on Saturday.
Even with projected peaks much down the track, you can't dismiss the 10-time Group One winner, who has won the Group One Winx Stakes first-up over this track/trip.
Much has been said about Verry Elleegant being vulnerable off a Melbourne Cup prep, which is being well overplayed, as she did the same last autumn.
Gate one over seven furlongs, there's queries on the map and how the inside will be playing, but in an event lacking a standout, should we be ignoring the best horse at $5?

2022 Apollo Stakes Value Bet - She's Ideel
After a stretch of rotten luck over a few campaigns, there was no more deserving group winner last spring when She's Ideel took out the Kingston Town Stakes.
Following her first black-type win, She's Ideel was honest in The Metropolitan, Caulfield/Melbourne Cups, but lacked the necessary class when the guns peaked.
While she looked a stayer and did win a 2400m (BM78), I just wonder whether this mare is better suited at 1600m-2000m, where she can let rip with one sprint.
The six-year-old has produced two cracking first-up efforts via her last two preps, which included a slashing third in the Winx Stakes, so is capable of a big run here.
